Being tied to my laptop recently and not my main gaming PC has allowed me to reappreciate a few older PC titles I'd picked up on the cheap once more. So what if PC games don't run at 600fps on a lappy compared to a real gaming machine, they still play more than well enough to allow front room gameage with headies on while the rest of the family watch their nightly soap bollocks. So fucking hooray to that.
The titles I've revisited recantleh include:
Jedi Outcast /Academy (Fuck you Forced Unrewarding tbh)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Maybe I'll complete it finally..ah shit it crashed again! )
Star Wars: Battlefront (Can't believe how many still play this awesome game online)
Star Wars: Republic Commando (Still rocks, gisanumbertwoffs)
Star Wars: Empire at War (Still sucks I'm afraid)
Soldier of Fortune II (1 - 31 bot servers are actually fun as hell)
Tribes: Vengeance (Still an underappreciated classic online)
No One Lives Forever 2 (Fun fun fun fun fun fun, mo fun)
Vampire: Bloodlines (Not really started it properly yet)
I'm sure there will be many more to come, considering GAME has a 3 for 10 pounds policy on so many classic PC games no doubt I'll be busy for a long while yet.
Sticking with Jedi Outcast though for a moment, I'm still amazed at just how well that game (and Academy) hold up to next-gen-look-at-the-fancy! bollocks that is Farce Unimpressive. And the combat, man the combat is still so slick and rewarding to master by direct comparison. Now I know I'll never allow my curiosity to get the better of me when I look for a new 360 game, because I already have better installed on here.
And then of course there's this..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REQqccHM6o8&feature=related
So there you have it, seven year old PC games that can still beat 2008 games ftw. All I need do now is track down a copy of Slave Zero on PC...hmm. To Amazon!
EDIT:
May as well do a poll for this, as I personally still think it's a case of Outcast > Acadameh, but I know many others disagree.
Choose your allegiance well. |

outcast is a far superior game in many ways over academy. |

What the, no Dark Forces 1+2 options?!
Recently finished Dark Forces 1. Finally got it working on DosBox. The Dark Troopers in that game are very tough and creep me out.
Jedi Knight had awesome level design and allowed you to chose which force powers you gained. Also video cutscenes! |

It may not have the edge combat wise (with all the fancy double sabers etc) but when it comes down to especially level design, Academy falls far short of Outcast. |

You should! Fantastic games. Don't let the crude graphics put ye off. Level design holds up well compared to new games today.
Ooo! A Dark Forces mod for Academy! Might need to check this out.

Been playing psychonauts though in the mean time which is just hilarious and great fun |

yeah totally like i said in "many ways" its superior - personally i just found that outcast had a better storyline to it and hooked me alot quicker and for longer than academy. Would love to see another outing in that franchise |

I think Academy has always been criticised a little unfairly - it was still great fun.
But yeah, Outcast is the better game. |

Outcast was the one with that awful city level covered in snipers and random grenade death wasn't it? Was Academy really that bad, the demo was quite good ¬_¬ |

You're such a n00b, Edwin. That level was fine, it was nice getting vengeance on the snipers too. |

That said, the game did improve massively once you moved away from shooters and started to play with the lightsabre/force powers. |

Sadly that's because Academy lies to itself, because the demo level is easily the best level in the entire game. Whereas the rest of the game just doesn't match up to it, which is a shame. Great combat, horrid horrid levels outside of the demo one.
The only real reason to currently choose Academy over Outcast today is multiplayer numbers, I found loads of active servers for Academy but only about 3 folk from cheshire all called Padawan playing Outcast online.
Broke my heart it did. |

The only Star Wars game I have ever enjoyed is Rebel Assault II.
I played it with my frankly awesome two-button Logitech Wingman Light.
What. A. Game. |
