announced then confirmed as standalone
Now that Electronic Arts has given the green light to press ahead with the next instalment of the planned trilogy, this announcement, following the website registration everyone saw in March, arrived in the morning.
However, Crysis Warhead was only confirmed as standalone later in the afternoon, confirming that it's the community that will have to patch up Crysis if it wants satisfactory multiplayer games up to Warhead's release next year in Q4.
If Crytek's vocal complaints about piracy are genuine, we refuse to believe that EA will let it happen again if the system requirements remain high. We predict that console versions for either the first game or this new one, will quietly added to EA's roster before the end of the year, even if it means that the coding will be adjusted downwards/refined for the graphics chips inside the 360 and PS3.
Being fair, the installed base of dual and quad core PCs will have grown by January 2009 so we're hoping that Crysis Warhead will be playable by more gamers immediately.

So does this mean that it's for the PC? I was expecting it to be the renamed console version. |

Argh this means there going to be lame and going to use the other guy for the third game then.
Think I will pass on this, not into going over same grounds/story and expect to pay full price for it. Which knowing EA it will be. |

Steady on. It's going to made by Crytek's new Budapest studio. I expect it's just an off-shoot to both keep EA happy and give the new studio some practice while the main team in Germany make a 'proper' sequel. |

Short gameplay trailer released
Now that we know the next game is on its way, but has an established engine with plenty of life in it, we knew it wouldn't be long before we saw some footage of the Crysis Warhead.
Download the HD trailer from here at Gamershell . It measures a very cap-friendly 133Mb.
Thanks Bluesnews.

Aren't they promising much greater optimization with this release? |

From what little I've just read about this, that would seem to be the case yes.
Moar Crysis, moar eye candy and korean carnage. Shame they will have to stick the aliens in again at some point. |

Word is that as Psycho is to be the star of Warhead another guy named Prophet will be the next star after. Yes that means in Crysis 2.
Obivously with Warhead though everyone is mentally willing them to understand how unbalanced they made the first Crysis outing when they switched from sandbox to as linear as a bread stick style gameplay sections. And from the sounds of it they have taken this 100% onboard for Warhead. So yeah, awesome. Can't wait to get stuck into more nanosuit mayhem. |
