I played through the first mission last night and really enjoyed it. For reference I have never played a Commandos or Desperado game before, but I was getting a very Soldiers: Heroes of WW2 vibe from it.
I really like the system that allows you to chain moves together. There was this courtyard that I needed to get through that had two guys on the high-ground looking in my direction, a guy standing guard at the bottom of the stairs and another guard patrolling between the two. I sent one of my Ninjas to skirt around to the far left and hide behind a building then set him to kill one of the guards on the high-ground with a shuriken. Then I set my sniper on the roof to take out the other guard on the high-ground. Finally I set my Samurai to use his skill that takes out three people in a group on the guard at the base of the stairs. Then once the patrolling guy had reached the guy at the bottom of the stairs I pressed enter and all the actions were carried out at once, eliminating all the guards without raising the alarm.
I also like that some of the skills use items that must then be retrieved before they can be used again. So the shuriken for instance must be collected after being used and the Samurai has a bottle of Saki that he can put down to distract enemies which must also be collected again.
The game looks great and I think it is a really neat touch that they have included Japanese VO, which I have turned one, it really adds to the atmosphere.
So yeah, so far my impressions are really positive.
