It would appear that Castle of Illusion is also heading to download services...

No word on if its a HD remake or not. My moneys on not and being 800 MS wang dang doodle bucks to boot.

EDIT: Turns out this is a HD remake right enough. So I have deemed it worthy of its own thread :D

Bear in mind that the video in that link is the original game.

I realise that, it just looks like a horrible platformer. The animation is hideous, the viewport is too close, and the physics just look boring. I realise I'm looking at this for the first time 22 years after it was released, but I'm just surprised because I've seen so many positive comments about it over the years.

It is pretty standard stuff from a mechanics point of view, and it is certainly no Mario, but it is the level design that really makes it shine, along with the art direction and music. These are the things that made it rise above a lot of the other platform games from the same era.

I would love an HD remake, but if it is just a port I have no interest at all. I can already play this on my PC via emulation.

LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO– 15th April, 2013 –SEGA® Europe Ltd., and SEGA® of America, Inc. in collaboration with Disney Interactive today announced the upcoming digital release of Castle of Illusion staring Mickey Mouse™, a complete re-imagining of the iconic Mega Drive/Genesis side-scrolling adventure first released in 1990. Developed by Sega Studios Australia, Castle of Illusion Featuring Mickey Mouse will be available worldwide for digital download on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for Xbox 360®, PlayStation®Network and Windows PC in summer 2013.

Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse first debuted on the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive in 1990 to critical acclaim. Excellent controls, music, and graphics helped to bring the magic of Disney to millions of SEGA fans around the world. Castle of Illusion Featuring Mickey Mouse will continue this tradition. Completely rebuilt from the ground up, Castle of Illusion has stunning visuals and new gameplay mechanics. Fans will enjoy the original storyline as they help Mickey save Minnie from the evil witch, Mizrabel.

“The original Castle of Illusion was tremendously entertaining and has a well-deserved reputation as a SEGA classic. Castle of Illusion Featuring Mickey Mouse brings this great game to a new generation,” said Chris Olson, vice president of Digital Business at SEGA of America. “Mickey is back and he looks fantastic.”

Hmm I not completely sold on the new graphics. Will have to see it in motion and hear the music before I make a proper judgement.

They have also released the original announcement trailer in colour.

I think it looks pretty good. Although the slightly odd diagonal angle on the screenshots is a concern.

Has there ever been a good platformer with a view angle like that?

I can't think of any, maybe its just for the screenshots though. I shall wait and see.

After the Ducktales remake flopped all hope lies with this. And I thought that Ducktales look the better of the two as well. :?

Worrying.

It seems Capcom may have made a better fist of this one.
