Some pretty healthy sales figures coming out of Nintendo today.

Switch sales are at 7.63m which is half of the lifetime sales of the Wii U.
Software sales are at 27.48m (physical copies only)

Splatoon 2 3.61m
Breath of the Wild 4.7m
Mario Kart 8 4.42m
1-2 Switch 1.37m
Arms 4.42m

amiibo are still selling well with 5.1m figures sold in the last quarter.

All these sales have led to an increase of 173% compared to last year and a profit of £334m for the quarter.

Not bad going.

Nintendo are already suggesting that the Switch will outsell the Wii U's lifetime total within its first year. Given how it's apparently still tricky to get a console in Japan and to a lesser extent the US, presumably the figures ought to be higher than this.

Prey, on January 13th wrote:Wow Nintendo truly are lost in their own arena of earth shatteringly shit ideas. Good luck with those 10 million units sold in the first year

We need to start up a service where people pay money to get Prey to be wrong about things ensuring their success. :P

Edit: I feel mean posting that without also posting my own cockup.
Raid wrote:I like the console, but the pricing and software lineup feels like it's going to kill the system before it even launches. I just don't see big adoption numbers with that slim a lineup.

Well done for proving everyone wrong Nintendo.

Nintendo gave me a code for Fire Emblem Warriors. Not my cup of tea. For this to work you will need to change your account location to USA then redeem the code. You can then switch (get it) your account back to UK.

If you redeem let us know to prevent someone else wasting their time. Thanks

I was tempted, but realised watching a video review of the game that I'd likely lose interest pretty quickly so left it for someone else. Incredibly generous though, thanks AE.

I am on Nintendo distribution list so I am drowning in Nintendo games. Still have not played Zelda, ARMS, Splatoon 2, Mario Kart or Mario Odyssey. Shame as I know people would love to be in my position. When my kid hits 5 I will start playing them.

They sent a Switch. Didn't even ask for it !. If ever there was a 1st world problem.......

Finished Breath of the Wild today.
That was alright. I mean, it was good, but also, you know, open world.

I really enjoyed how the layered systems stuff worked and there was a thrill to the freedom of exploration. But the story part of the game was surprisingly slight. If you took away the exploration, I wouldn't be shocked if the story stuff amounted to a few hours. It just feels padded to all hell with the busy work in between major dungeons.
It's very well done, but won't be in my top 5 for the year, for sure.

Seeing the DLC that was announced today more or less cements that I'm going to trade it in next week. I had hoped they'd change it up, like playing as the champions, or going to Hyrule before shit kicked off. Instead it looks like more filler and a motorbike(!?), which is a bit crap as the puzzles and dungeons didn't leave me wanting more.
If I can save a few hours and 20 quid watching the new memories on YouTube, I'll just do that instead. :-k

Well, now I'm left with a Mario player. And even then, I wonder how much juice that's got left in it. Hope we hear about Nintendo's 2019 plans soon before I do something rash.
