Maybe unplayable is a tad unfair. The ghosting is distracting. Whether you can live with it or not is the question.

In handheld mode it's sublime.

Nah, every other game (including Switch games) doesn't have that problem.

Just played 20-30 rounds in the Arms test punch. That’s a fun game for exactly 20-30 rounds. Completely had my fill of it and man I’d be pissed if I payed £50 for that!

I gave it a try in the pre-release test and it just didn't grab me at all. I was fairly impressed with the support it seemed to be getting though; I think it's finished now but they were adding a new fighter pretty much every month.

In related Nintendo news I see teh president Kimishima is retiring and will be replaced by 46-year-old Shuntaro Furukawa...

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... era-levels

"We will develop the company to its fullest. I will balance Nintendo’s traditions: originality and flexibility," he said. "I grew up playing the Famicom and come from that generation. Now as a member of management with Super Mario's creator Shigeru Miyamoto, I have a lot of respect for him.

"On the other hand, with this new job that can’t just be it, so I expect to say what needs to be said to run the company."

Nintendo have final detailed their online system. It will cost £18 a year or £3.49 a month and on launch will give you access to 20 multiplayer enabled NES games. You will also have access to cloud saves and of course multiplayer itself. This is the list of some of the NES games available at launch.

Soccer
Tennis
Donkey Kong
Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros.
Balloon Fight
Ice Climber
Dr. Mario
The Legend of Zelda
Super Mario Bros. 3

There will be no new voice system so you will still have to use the phone app.

£18 isn't too bad considering the price you pay for the competition. I'm not sure if I will sub out the gate as I don't play a lot of multiplayer on my Switch and I think in the end that is the main issue, apart from Splatoon 2 there isn't really anything I'm that interested in in playing online. Maybe if the free games they add get more interesting then I'll take the plunge.

I'm assuming that this basically means no 'Virtual Console' for the Switch then.

I dunno; I mean £18 isn't a large amount of money over the course of a year, but when Sony are charging £40, giving you a library of free PS4 games, and not requiring you to use a ridiculous solution for voice chat, it does still feel a bit much to me given Nintendo doesn't exactly have great form when it comes to online games and services.

They’ve said that, aye. I hope that doesn’t mean they just lump it all in. My least favourite thing this gem is XBLA/PSN titles being lumped in with all the larger games. I know it’s a grey line but its still very messy in a store.

Also virtual console is a perfect name and brand for what they were doing, it’s daft to scrap it.
