Here's hoping they just iron out some of the wrinkles that were obviously always a bit dodgy. Though when you consider that last time they brought an updated port of FF7 to PC they decided to add an auto leveller function so that you could skip most of the game, it doesn't really fill you with much hope.

Ah well, two years of nervous waiting at the minimum to see what happens.

I don't know whether to be excited or disappointed. Such mixed feelings.

Probably excited. It looks like there's some sort of ATB style system in the combat, though who knows at this point. So long as it isn't like 13.

I'm guessing it's like 12s, which is basically Final Fantasy's take on a third person action game, which I'm happy with.

It looks phenomenal though. Can't wait :D

The combat is apparently real time which makes me actually interested in it, and having never played the original I don't really care about the changes being made.

Yesterday it came out that the game will be episodic, which to me feels a bit weird. I'm not sure a giant JRPG is a good fit for the episodic model.

It's going to bother me if they're not sticking with a traditional ATB system. How much it bothers me depends on how close it is to the original - it's entirely possible they just showed off the attack animations, as there's clearly a menu system there.

The music and visuals though? Beautiful, exactly what I wanted. I don't think I'll mind it being episodic so long as there aren't years between episodes.

When do you think they'll announce microtransactions? :D

Yep, exactly what I thought. Pass until they are all out and likely a lot cheaper. I'm not interested in playing this game and having to wait 6 months for the next part. Might work with Midgar if that's one episode but after that there's no point.

Yoshinori Kitase wrote:"Producing a proper HD remake of Final Fantasy 7 that maintains the same feeling of density of the original would result in a volume of content that couldn't possibly fit into one instalment," he said. "We've seen everyone's comments and reactions to the news that Final Fantasy 7 remake will be a multi-part series and many have speculated correctly as to the reason why we have made this decision. If we were to try to fit everything from the original into one remake instalment, we would have to cut various parts and create a condensed version of Final Fantasy 7. We knew none of you would have wanted that.

"I hope that by explaining a little more about our design decisions that you can appreciate the size of this project and what we have planned for this remake. Going beyond the scale and depth of the world, narrative and gameplay from the original to deliver something that feels familiar yet new. As I said before, we like delivering surprises."

Or in a shorter version.

"Why sell you the game in one package when we can sell you it in multiple packages and make more money."

Or in another version

"We thought you might want some of the game before 2018"

I'm sure this decision was made for purely altruistic reasons. :)

Anyone would think that nobody made big games any more the way Square go on about FF7.

God. The current state of games is depressing.

I remember Jim Sterling once said that certain Squeenix representatives have been pushing for episodic content in EVERYTHING for ages. Looks like it's starting.
