Patch 1.04 out May 25th. An expansion is also in the works, but no info until later in the year.

So has the opinion on this turned yet? I've read and heard from a few places that on second reflection it perhaps isn't as amazing as some first thought.

I find it interesting the lessons being taken away from the large sales numbers. Many places seem to think that this proves the Souls series has moved onto the next level and is now more popular. Personally I think a good portion of the people who bought it did so because of the dearth of new software on the new consoles.

People appear to be moving on mass month to month from one big game to the next, all experiencing it at once and then seemingly forgetting about it the next month when the big new game hits. We went through a similar period early in the life of the Xbox 360.

I don't really get it - whats the point of the game?

Picked it up to play on my puppy fortnight off, wandered about a bit, twatted some grizzly victorian/Bill the Butcher types, got killed quite a bit.

But why?

To what end?

What am I doing and why am I doing it?

All just a bit too aimless for me, rapidly losing interest.

These games are about the mystery, of not really knowing what is going on, but slowly discovering the story. There don't really give you any direction or tell you where to go or what to do so if you want that stuff then the game isn't really for you. They are also about the combat and the thrill of finally overcoming that boss that has repeatedly killed you.

They are definitely an acquired taste so don't feel bad if you just bounce of it.

I did think twice before buying it tbh, I bounced off Dark Souls and ignored the sequel as a result. This feels very similar and the lack of any direction whatsoever is just weird.

Yeah I feel the same about them tbh Snowy, I think it's just a horses for courses thing.

Whilst true, Bloodborne (and the Dark Souls games in themselves) are set up like story-led RPG which has then hidden the story away in the most cryptic of fashion. It's the one thing that really makes them not appeal to me.

Mmhhhh I see where you are going, but pretty much all games (i.e. those not from From Software) at least provide a premise. "You need to [X] now off you go" as a minimum, and then provide sufficient exposition from there to keep you aware of your goals.

I sort of liked the FROMsoft games for being like that. Plopped into a really cool desolate world with little more than "you have a sword, there's baddies to use it on, off you pop". I guess there's also the neat thing of being offered a vague task of doing something with an undead curse that as you go on proves to be a false notion.

Then again I have spent way too much time analysing the scant plot details while comparing them to existential ideas and such like a huge spod so horses for courses
