I know most of the server side issues are totally unrelated to this, but people were unimpressed with the Halo 1 and 2 ports not maintaining 1080p or 60fps at times. I really don't get why they felt the need to render the game in two separate engines at the same time just so you can compare then with now. You might swap back to classic graphics for a second just to realise how rose tinted your memory of the original is, but having a constant render ticking away underneath the new effects is otherwise a total waste of resources. Can't say I've ever played any other HD re masters (and there are plenty to choose from this year) and thought to myself "Wow, if only I could see the original version too!"

Minor bug bear I know compared with the problems currently getting people up in arms. But just think how much easier it would have been for them to nail this collection if they hadn't faffed about getting the XOne to render two games at once with the original games. No doubt it's one of the reasons why local co-op runs like an absolute dog, and that was the main draw that the Halo franchise always had for me.

I know. it's a fun gimmick, but not worth the performance hit.

So, I was looking into the making of the collection. It's kind of crazy just how many studios have their fingers in this.
Obviously, the base games were made by Bungie and 343i. Then you've got Sabre, the classy "AAA" studio of Will Rock and Timeshift fame, doing the ports and anniversary overlays for the first two games. Completely separate from them, Certain Affinity made their own Halo 2 engine for the six multiplayer maps. The multiplayer for Halo: Combat Evolved is lifted from Gearbox. Ruffian Games did the porting job on Halo 3 and 4. And the UI that ties it all together was built by United Front Games.

Sounds like a logistical nightmare, honestly. And in the middle of it all, 342i is neck deep in Halo 5 while trying to orchestrate this.

On top of that, who knows what is going on with the servers.

As I said before, I'm not particularly happy. I'm glad to have a jukebox like set up for all the Halo I could ever want to play (and the sooner they bolt in Reach, ODST and Wars, the better), but this shoddy launch is impressing nobody. You'd think the flagship franchise for the console would be handled with a bit more care.

Ah well! Still going to buy Halo 5.

Well, here's a bit of news.

Anyone who has played the MCC between launch and yesterday will get the following:

Remastered Halo 3: ODST
Halo 2 Anniversary Remaster of the map Relic
An exclusive Nameplate and Avatar (my guess would be "Beta Tester" or "Sucker!")
And a free month of Xbox Live Gold.

This all kicks off in Spring 2015.

As someone who bought the set mainly for the single player, that's a damn fine apology gift. Can only hope this means Reach will come along at some point. Goodness, imagine if Wars came out as well?

That said, it sounds like the multiplayer is still busted, so... there's that.

Also got the Halo 5 MP beta coming up at the end of the month. Quite like the look of it from what little I've seen. Can't help but wonder how all the improved speed and mobility stuff will transfer over to the SP game.

Not that it looks hugely better at native res.

Still, I have fond memories of ODST, so it'll be fun to go back and play it again looking all fancy. :)

One day later than rumoured, ODST for the Mister Chef Collection is now available.
That said, I'm the only person on this forum who owns the game so who really gives a toot? I mean, I do, but that's beside the point.

Turned on last night and they've sent me a download code for the game. Wasn't expecting it to be fair.
