Hmm I wonder if this means we might see a new IP from Epic or will they now just focus primarily on making sure Unreal Engine 4 is up to scratch. We can always hope for a new Unreal Tournament.

As if.

Didnt Gears Judgement sell pretty crapily? 3 kind of killed that series for me, it was just so bad that I lost interest even though I think Judgement sounded like I'd have liked it :(

Judgement didn't sell that well no, but that was mainly because people were tired of Gears of War. Wait a few years and then I'm sure people will be ready for another Gears game.

Aye 3 was the death of the series for me. Ice T, zombies and a shite last level and boss ruined it all. I still rate GoW 2 as one of my favourite games ever.

One word, Lambant.

I'm glad I'm not alone though because everyone seems to rate 3 as the best and they are crazy. 1 had the best campaign, 3 probably the best MP but an awful campaign.

Now that this franchise is firmly in Microsoft's hands I think it's safe to say that it's going through its death throes. Microsoft are completely incapable of making good first party games anymore.

I think 2 was probably my favourite in terms of how it played and the excellent multiplayer, but it was pretty glitchy and unbalanced. The campaign on the first game is probably the highest point this series ever reached though, that was one of my first 360 experiences and it really did feel next gen at the time.

I never bothered even buying the third game - the campaign in the second was brilliant at times, but had absolutely shocking difficulty spikes from what I remember, and it really put me off.

Cliffy B responds...

Friends,

Waking up today I was drowning in a deluge of emails, tweets, direct messages and smoke signals.

My former employer has sold the Gears of War IP/franchise to Microsoft and my friend Rod Fergusson is going to be working on it.

To be honest, I don’t think the franchise could be in better hands. Heck, Rod’s Twitter handle, to this day, is “Gears Viking.” Gears is just as much Rod’s baby as it was mine. He’ll take good care of her. (Rod, I owe you a girly drink at GDC.)

Phil Spencer went out of his way to give me a phone call to inform me of the transaction last week. Phil, you didn’t have to do that, you’re a gentleman. I appreciate it; that goes a long way. 343 knocked it out of the park with Halo and I think Black Tusk will do a fantastic job with Gears.

I suppose this puts the nail in the coffin of the question “Will Gears ever come to Playstation?”

Safe to say that’s not likely to happen. (Besides, it gives me something to look forward to on Xbox One besides Titanfall and Project Spark…oh and more Halo, of course.)

Love,

Clifford

Lets see... what games does that leave Epic with should they continue a franchise.....

Unreal

BULLETFUCKINGSTORM

¬_¬

Not actually sure which I would rather have.... a new UT would be more than welcome because I did so love 3 (Better than 2k4 by miles, shudap naysayers!). I would even welcome a rerelease of UT1 on consoles/browsers.

A re-release of the first game would be great. Personally I think with the sale of Gears and the departures they have had from the company over the last few years that Epic are transitioning to a engine only company. I wouldn't be surprised to see either lay-offs at People Can Fly or the sell-off of that developer.

I agree about UT3 being better UT2k4.

And Bulletstorm 2 needs to happen so hard.

Black Tusk renamed The Coalition...

No word on whether Clegg is involved or not.

Do they really need to release a video to explain that they are changing their name?
