PS4 Pro review.

If anyone is interested, Very are doing a "use our by now pay later option and get £50 cash back" thing making it £300 (a little less if you also use quidco). Offer also works on an XBoxS and a PS4slim.

Razor has announced the price of their PS4 pro controller and it is £150. I'm not sure what kind of person, considering their history, would pay £150 for a third party controller.

Sad it's still J&E, but we'll see. ND can work wonders at times.

I missed the end of the Playstation show yesterday, but up to the point I had watched it was a load of remasters and a new Knack game which was very uninspiring.

The footage of the Crash Bandicoot remaster looks great. Will definitely be buying that.

Nier Automata looks pretty neat too.

Feels like I really should be saving up for a Pro or something. Could just get a slim or a second hand original for much less, sure, but I'm too much of a sucker.

Never did make a sizeable dent in my PS4 backlog before having to sell it for furniture while moving house. Since then the list of games I'd like to play has only continued to grow. Plus I've got a USB stick with my Bloodborne save game on it. Really want to get back into that at some point.

Isn't cloud saving a standard part of PSN now? It always asks me on PS3 if I want my saves to go to the network storage instead of local, not sure how it works on PS4 though as it doesn't give the same prompts when you create a new save.

I sort of want a Pro just so I can play more games in their 1080p60fps mode, though there's not many that have confirmed those options yet. And my standard PS4 still has P.T. on it so I'd have to keep it.

Most Pro compatible games appear to be going for resolution increases over fps.

The ones I've read about apparently give the choice between stable frame rate or resolution. Won't be getting a 4K telly any time soon, but if it means consistent frame-rates or extra visual polish, that seems like it'd be worth it.

Yeah, I'm daft enough to pay an extra hundred just to not have games drop below 30fps. :P

Essential from Eurogamer.

What an odd timing for both this and FF15 to come out within months of each other after both being in development for nigh on ten years.

Oh boy the Last Guardian reviews. Some of the control stuff sounds hideous.

The game could do with some optimisation I think.

Anyone tried Let It Die yet? The aim of the game is to make your way to the top of the demonic tower with every death meaning you have to start again. It has some really cool mechanics in it like the fact that when you die your corpse resurrects as an enemy in the game which you need to defeat in order to get that character back. You can also send your characters out into the world to invade other people's games in order to level up. It has a loot system similar to Dead Island in that everything degrades when you use it and the more you use an item the more damage you do with it, however it is only the killing blow which sees you gain exp with the item.

The combat is similar to Dark Souls and the levels are all PCG, I've heard people liken it to Chalice Dungeons from Bloodborne. The free to play stuff seems pretty light with two forms of currency one of which you use to buy items that allow you to resurrect where you died with all loot and progress intact and another which can be earned and allows you to resurrect your character in the main hub. You can also buy the later, Kill Coins, with real money. There is also an option to pay a monthly subscription which gets you a variety of stuff including free resurrections.

There are a couple of large issues though which to my mind seriously impact the gameplay. Firstly the lock-on is next to useless. It doesn't track the enemy very well so if you roll out of the way the camera follows you rather than the enemy so whilst you will still attack in the direction of the enemy you can't see it until you manually adjust the camera. With fights mainly taking places in small rooms or tight corridors this lock-on issue can really hamper the combat. The other issue is the dodge isn't instantaneous, there is a slight delay between pressing the button and actually rolling out of the way.

These two issue, combined with the fact that death is so punishing mean that my enjoyment of the game was spoilt somewhat. If these two things were tightened up I think Let It Die could be a really fun game. As it is right now I often feel that my death is not totally my fault, which in a game like this is never a good thing.
