On a whim, picked up the two Wonder Boy games released in Europe.

Wonder Boy 3: Monster Lair and Wonder Boy: Monster World 3

Not going to lie, I accidentally got the games confused and bought Monster Lair by mistake. #-o
I wasn't too concerned until I saw most retro review places poo-pooing the game.

But hey! At least I've got Monster World 3, right? Again, enthusiasm was cooled as the same retro reviewers complained that the game wasn't as good as the confusingly titled prequel, Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap, on the Master System. #-o x2

So yeah. Came away feeling like I'd made poor purchases... and that I should look into a Master System Converter at some point.

I may have one up the loft. I shall have a look for you Subby.

The Wonderboy games are totally bananas when it comes to naming and numbering so you can be forgiven. Easy mistake to make.

Anyone here have much experience with the Master System? Totally missed out on that era of consoles, what with growing up on a Amastrad CPC. :P

Outside of Wonder Boy, Alex Kidd and Phatasy Star, what else was there of note on the system?
After having a browse of the library, my initial impression was that it was stuffed with trash down ports of Mega Drive games, most of which were already down ports of arcade games.

I had a Master System in the pre-Sonic days and indeed there weren't alot of games unique to the system that were any good.

I seem to remember enjoying Psycho Fox, but its essentially just Decapattack. Power Strike II was pretty good as well. Maybe Zillion and Transbot too and of course Snail Maze. :D

But it was pretty much all about the game series you mentioned and hundreds of ports. R-Type and Shinobi were alright.

No joy on the MS converter front I'm afraid Subby, but I did find the Master System itself if that's any good to you

Hmm...not a huge fan of the Master System.

Everything from the controllers to the games were so inferior to the Mega Drive, I didn't really see the point of it.

Golfmania! The best golf game ever!

Pro Wrestling!

Ninja Gaiden! (better than the NES one).

That one with foxes playing basketball! Might have been a gamegear game now that I think of it.

edit: ofcourse it was inferior to the Megadrive, it was released years before it you plonker ;)

It just might be. Is it a model one or two? :-k

Doesn't seem like a particularly expensive console to collect for. Looks easy enough to track down that handful of stand out titles for relatively cheap. Looking for the rarer Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast games can be real bank burners in comparison. Panzer Dragoon Saga, anyone? :-k

Edit: Transbot will the the title of my non-game indie text adventure with pixel art about a very sensitive robot dealing with gender identity.

Master System 1 or GTFO. Probably the coolest console design ever. Shut up, it is! Especially the late end model that has Alex Kidd built it.

Remember you also have the card games as well as the cart games with the master system Sub, cant not buy them!

Why did you think I asked what model it was?
I'm not some sort of monster.

A bit before my time then. When I was old enough for a console I was given the choice between the Master System or a Mega Drive.
