I'd assume a massive number would be from the stampede. Also, there were gun shows the weekend before and after so people might question gun cases less and also with lax background checks at those shows he may even have bought the guns, or some of them, that week.

Horrified by this. Although you can see quite clearly from some of the videos taken that mass segments of the crowd barely flinched when the first shots started to ring out believing they were firecrackers or some kind of part of the ongoing show. That many people in such close vicinity with low reaction times were just sitting ducks obviously and I agree that the primary weapon used must have been something rarely found in such situations to date to cause such chaos in such a short period of time. Trumps utter lack of focus aimed directly at gun control after such an unspeakable atrocity also speaks volumes. Something like this should immediately incite major changes in the law sadly we all know it will change nothing. Not a damn a thing. Reports are now saying he was hold up in his room with 23 guns. Fucking 23.

What I don't get is that Paddock had no major priors, no criminal history, no army training and next to no gun training of any kind, no mental health concerns and was for all intents and purposes a very regular guy yet he staged this entire thing single handedly with almost insane professional like expertise so as to cause maximum fatalities and injury? Of course they have now tied him to having major problems with gambling and even stated he was once a multi millionaire before his gambling habit took full hold but if that were the case and this was all about financial losses then why take it out on a crowd enjoying a country and music show and not take it directly into the many established casinos he no doubt frequented reportedly blowing $8000 at a time?

Something about this whole thing just screams at being a well timed convenience given the ongoing North Korea proceedings and if like me you are someone who rather strongly believes 9/11 was absolutely an inside job surrounding a man who would not have stood out in a crowd and whose family are completely at a loss as to his motives behind the shooting. I could be wrong I know and that's all very tinfoil hat but that's simply my opinion.

Terrible tragedy and it shows once again how acts like these are reported differently depending on the perpetrator. Because he is white the media instantly claim he is a lone gunman and most have mental issues. The Metro this morning even saw fit to print a bit about how his father was a 'psychopath' as if that has bearing on his mindset. They are now saying he had 42 guns in his room.

Rather typically the right wing media in the US is railing against anyone speaking out about more gun control following this attack, saying they are politicising the tragedy. They are the first to talk about limiting rights for Muslims when there is an attack by ISIS, funny that they don't think the same when a white guy shoots a load of people.

A horrendous thing to happen - and what is Trumpy's tweet du jour?

"I am so proud of our great Country. God bless America!"

What fucking planet does this fucking turd live on? Is he in an alternate reality where the single worst mass shooting did not just take place?

Prick.

As yet, no clear reason for the killing has emerged and investigators have found no link to international terrorism. Some investigators have suggested Paddock had a history of mental illness, but this has not been confirmed.

Speaking to reporters as he was about to board the presidential helicopter, Mr Trump said Paddock was "a sick man, a demented man. Lot of problems, I guess, and we're looking into him very, very seriously".

So investigators haven't been able to confirm he had any mental illness and yet Trump "guesses" he was "demented" with a lot of problems. Way to jump to unfounded conclusions with dangerous implications, Mr President. What a shit. He also said he'd look into gun laws "as time goes by", whatever that means.

Nevada has some of the most open gun laws in America. If an event as harrowing as this doesn't provoke a swift and comprehensive review of gun laws with substantial action being taken then nothing will. And the last thing the situation needs is Trump.

Nothing will change. The vast majority of Americans - Republicans and Democrats alike, and all others - want gun control laws tightened. The lawmakers who are in the NRA's pocket are the ones that vetoed slightly stricter laws not too long ago. As for the shooter, he had tens of thousands of people in a corralled crowd, with loud music distracting them at first; a perfect firing position to rain full-auto fire into the packed-in crowd, from a highly elevated position meaning lots of head shots especially during the first bursts; nobody able to return fire at all. He was deviously smart in the planning of this (which contributed to the size of the massacre, more than making up for lack of military training and knowledge of the weapons he had), and we may never know why.

And now we'll have sniper teams at every large event, and in the case of states such as Nevada and Arizona we'll have goddam gun nuts with open carry and concealed carry weapons. I'm starting to think I really do need a new country to retire to! I'm starting to hate it here thanks to the millions of loons that support Trump. I feel their presence now like the beginnings of a migraine, up the back of my neck . . . .

I wouldn't come here. We're sleepwalking towards catastrophe and the people get progressively more miserable and racist every year.

I reckon his hair is just...luxurious!!

The NRA said they'd review regulating bump slides that allow rifles to fire full auto, but they also managed somehow to pass the blame onto Obama and the ATF for allowing them in the first place. Pond scum has more dignity.

Haven't many gun shops also sold out of the bump stop/slide things as people predicted they'd be banned so got in quick.
