Manchester - Confirmed Bomb Attack :(

Postby Quietman » Mon May 22, 2017 11:10 pm

Sounds like a bomb attack at an Ariana Grande gig tonight

Hope all of the Manc contingent are safe and well away.

Fuck... when I went to bed last night the rumours were a speaker had blown... woken up this morning to find 19 dead and a suspected terror attack. That's just awful. :(
My face is tired.

22 dead now.

Only just heard about this at work with parents saying their kids wanted to go to the concert.
Kids, ffs.

Horrified. I can't imagine a much scarier scenario than being in the MEN when something like this happens.

My partner's Dad is a roadie and was working that concert. He's uninjured, his workmates are uninjured, but some of them saw the immediate aftermath and are absolutely distraught. My partner herself was meant to be going down there to meet him for dinner last night, but didn't because it was a bit too late to cancel our other plans for the evening.

This is obviously not a process I fully understand, but the bomber presumably picked a target beforehand, didn't he. It's not like you wander through the city centre working out what the best target is going to be that evening. At some point this person sat down and thought, "Hey, an arena full of kids! Entirely innocent young people, that'll be perfect!" How exactly do people end up in the state where they can fully ignore their conscience, hell, in some ways their biological imperative, and go through with a plan like that?

Shock factor designed to enrage the most people possible. It's pure barbarism.

We should never let these kinds of attacks be a catalyst for curtailing our own freedoms though. A police surveillance state with everyone living in fear is a victory for terrorists.

These people are completely unhinged. Pull together, be strong, fuck terrorism.

This.

Unthinkable actions.
My thoughts are with the victims and witnesses.

Heartbreaking.

There's just something about it happening so close to home and it freaks me out.

What the hell makes a person wake up in the morning "Ah of course, got to go bomb some kids later."

And naturally the radical islamists and the radical opposition are going off at each other which will lead to more shit.

This sucks, condolences to all involved, a shitty thing.

Heard this morning that a colleague in the Sheffield office was one of the victims and died from her injuries. I didn't know her personally but still makes it that much more real if that makes sense?

Horrible state of affairs.

Twitter really is the worst after these kinds of things. My timeline is full of rather racist and reactionary comments from people, who up till now, appeared to be fairly decent people.

Damn, Snowy.
This forum makes it all more real due to the location of various members rather than me tucked away in the middle of nowhere in the south west.
