I've got, like, 3 weeks off over christmas because someone used up all their leave in the summer and I got in there like the scum I am.

Done my usual trick of starting on the good booze already, got some beers in though so I won't be hammering the bourbon. Ought to get a picture of the amount of alcohol me and mum have so far, we're doing our bit against the temperance movement for sure

So yeah, I've opened the whiskey, it's officially Christmas now. Yes.

I'm too hyped, I don't think I've been this buzzing about Christmas since I was a kid!

I am currently sipping port. Earlier today I had a mince pie. Christmas has arrived.
My face is tired.

I drink bourbon by choice, so that ain't a Xmas thing, but that said since the wife and I finished for Xmas we have been putting my espresso machine to good use - espresso martinis every night, usually more than one.

You have to make them with proper espresso or they don't taste as they should. Also they don't have any martini in them which is an unexpected plus.

Take a cocktail shaker and fill about half full with ice. Prepare each drink separately.

Add 50ml of Vodka, 25ml of Kahlua and 25ml freshly brewed espresso (a small shot, thankfully my coffee machine can be set to deliver different amounts and can do 2 cups at once, fresh ground bean to cup mmmm).

Shake the living shit out of it, 10-20 seconds minimum, this froths it up which is essential to get that espresso crema on the top of the drink.

Pour into a martini glass through a cocktail strainer, being sure to let the foam pour out at the end. Garnish with a couple of coffee beans and away you go.

Heaven.

Someone keeps making those espresso martinis at the theatre group parties and I just don't get the appeal. Well, I mean, the obvious appeal is that there's a lot of chicks in the group but still. It just seems like a weird IRL meme to me, especially since I'm a former chef and such fad items genuinely amuse me

I'm thinking I might start Christmas day off with a Havana coffee. It's like an Irish coffee but with rum instead of whiskey. Got The Rum Diary on DVD to watch so it'd be fitting. TV seems kinda crap this Christmas TBH, sort of looking forward to watching Frozen but other than that not really seen anything on that I haven't seen a billion times before.

Nothing quite like a religious holiday to bring out the innate alcoholism that defines the core of what it is to be British.

I'm rather looking forward to it being over this year for two reasons; Christmas dinner can't come quickly enough and the Christmas music blaring out everywhere is starting to drive me insane.

That upload limit will be because it stems from a forum feature which nobody has ever used since the place started in 2003. -_-

My liquor cupboard is full of imported Russian vodka courtesy of my girlfriend's parents. I'm quite prone to a vodka, Kahlua and milk combination myself. Can't beat a White Russian. I even started making cold brew coffee which I could freeze into ice cubes at one point.

But alas, I've cut down drastically on all substances this year.

I think I went through a white Russian phase after watching The Big Lebowski. Also not pictured are three bottles of prosecco. Not sure how much of that I'll drink, was left in a right state after the last time I was on the prosecco. Lay in bed for about three hours groaning and listening to Enya while trying not to throw up

Turkey crowns the size of my grandkids are defrosting and the Tesco shop just arrived. Shit's getting real.

Enya is about as close to white noise as music gets for me.

Now Bob Dylan's christmas album...
