Christmas is Awesome

Postby PaladinAl » Fri Dec 02, 2016 3:35 pm

I'll have no whinging about Christmas in this thread, someone wants to do a Grumpy Old Men thing then they can start their own topic. This is a thread about how Christmas is pretty great and complaining about it is proper Scrooge behaviour. I mean, I don't get people that complain about Christmas. "Oh man, I have to spend time with my lame family" At least you have a family for Christ's sake.

It's the time of year where they have great deals on spirits, what's not to love? Especially for the atheists out there, you can drink whiskey to feel warm inside even if God's light doesn't reach you. And you get presents! What's the problem? "OH MAN I HATE GETTING THINGS FOR FREE FROM PEOPLE THAT CARE ABOUT ME!" What? Take a look at this guy:

Image

Do you think he'd whinge if he got a present? No he wouldn't. Do you have a problem with how materialist and consumerist Christmas has become in the modern age? Then do something about it, give to a charity or volunteer your skills or something. I've volunteered with the Crisis Open Christmas a few times in the past and it's great if you're stuck for something to do at Christmas because you get to put a smile on a homeless person's face.

But yeah, Christmas is awesome. I hate when I see people whinging about Christmas. Like, you dislike a holiday? What? Eat, drink and be merry you gits.

I'm gonna put my fairy lights up.

I have my Frank Sinatra Christmas CD on in the car and will sing along to it at the drop of a hat.

I can't stand the material side of it but the holiday season itself I do like.

The food, the beer, the games, the bad jokes in crackers..

This year for me is a two dinner job (my family at lunch, the in-laws at dinner). The two stone I've dropped this year is gonna come back with a vengeance :D

My partner and I aren't traditional christmas people, but for a change we did get ourselves an advent calendar, the Lego Star Wars one. This was yesterday's entry:

(I added the "tow bar" because there were spare parts that needed using)

I have to wait for her to get back from work before I open today's. There is Lego in my house that I'm supposed to open today but currently can't. Life is rubbish.

That's pretty awesome, saw that on Amazon when I was looking up advent calendars. Not kidding, there's bugger all in the shops around me. Will go further afield when I can be arsed to go get more decorations. Turns out one of the set of fairy lights is knackered and I really can't be bothered to arse around fixing a set of lights I'm pretty sure we got from Poundland.

Also I have the best cheesy Christmas jumper. It has a button that plays a selection of Christmas jingles :D

That is awesome. I haven't got a decent Xmas jumper after last year when my uncles dog snagged it from the washing pile... made love to it and savaged it

Also mam got some baubles earlier, popped them on the tree. Gonna get some tinsel either tomorrow or some time during the week.

I love Christmas. Every year, I and a few friends get together in December before everyone heads off to families or wherever and have a full, proper Christmas dinner. Everyone contributes something towards it and it always ends up being one of the best nights of the year, and last night's dinner was no different. I feel horrific this morning, though, due to a combination of beer, wine, whisky, Baileys, sherry and eating more than should be humanly possible. #-o

Christmas/New Year is awesome, but I am working this year. So I am postponing my Christmas until mid January when I get two weeks off. I will go down to Brighton to see my son.

As for the Christmas turd above, I know quite a few people I could send that to.
