I'd say so. It turns the game into a service, and reduces the industry from an art form/entertainment even further to cater for the greed of shareholders.
Of course being able to buy items gives other players an advantage. If you run out of pokeballs, you need to physically go and visit a pokestop to find more, someone who chooses to buy them does not. As for it being good for other players to effectively subsidise free to play games - is that really a good thing? Is it sustainable?
Maybe I'm just cynical. I don't actually play any mobile games any more.
