Remember watching Louis theroux trying to interview him and Debbie...very very odd pair. One of the better Louis theroux interviews.

Yeah, was a good programme. Came across as a bit of a strange character, nothing sinister but just a bit unusual, but perhaps he was just a bit guarded after becoming a bit of figure of fun in the media.

Loved his magic show back in the day, and Wizbit was a telly staple when I was young. Sad how many of my childhood figures are dropping at the moment. :(

I came into this thread with the same thought.

Sad news though, he was a family favourite when I was a nipper. He did a show recently at a local venue that a mate of mine took his kids to, and apparently he was still really good.

RIP

RIP. We need more of Paul Daniels' sort of magic on TV, and less of the overly-dramatic, humourless acts that David Copperfield popularised, or the psychological experiments that Derren Brown inflicts on us, or the narcissistic bollocks that David Blaine churns out. Is it wrong to want a family-friendly magic show where the tricks aren't that difficult to work out but are entertaining nonetheless?

I was never a particularly big Paul Daniels fan, I think largely because the majority of his fame came before I was old enough to be into it, but I watched a video on facebook last night and he was just completely entertaining. Brown and Blaine and the like pull off some very clever tricks, but they don't have an ounce of the showmanship.

Daniels' style was likely considered dated, but he was fun.
