Its a Czech army bedroll, bivy bag, fleece blanket and linen liner all buttoned together, dirt cheap too.

As if the heat at night wasn't bad enough, I've developed a severe toe inflammation which I'm pretty sure is gout. #-o Didn't get a wink of sleep last night.

I blame the fact that my cooker broke and so I lived on junk for about 10 days until it was replaced (conveniently forgetting the years of food and drink-based abuse levelled at my body  ).

Sigh, more power cuts in Lancaster. Thankfully the phone masts came back on after about half an hour so I do at least have 4G to check the power company's twitter for updates.

I'm reduced to a smart phone and a mere portable games console like some sort of savage.

Power came back for me about 30 mins ago, immediately after my laptop battery had died and I'd gone for a much needed lie down. Back to work. :(

I make no bones about the fact that I would collapse in a pile and die.

I think if I were in the army I'd be significantly less fat, and able to walk without sweating like a fountain.

Significant temperature hikes like these are always going to cause discomfort in this country. Our homes are designed to keep heat in, not cool us down, and air conditioning is still considered a luxury.

Struggled in the heat all my life, always been comfortable at temperatures others tend to find a bit chilly.

I've backpacked in Alice Springs during an Ozzie summer and been pretty miserable, but even having done that I hate the hot days in England more. You just never get an opportunity to adjust - it's only been a week since it was hammering down and the wife had to be forcibly restrained from putting the heating on - and as Raid says we're not set up to cope with extreme heat in this country.

Extremes

Nah fair one Sly. Extreme for here I guess. As for housing actually any house with cavity wall insulation will equally keep a house cooler as well as warmer. The point being it's insulating from the Temps outside. The main reason it possibly feels hotter inside is the lack of air flow within.

Isn't glastonbury this weekend??? God they are in for such a muddy old time

Can you imagine being in the midst of that crowd in 33 degree heat? They'll be glad of the rain!

I'm looking forward to it. Hot weather just isn't the same when you've still got the daily grind to attend to, particularly when it's British style hot weather where it's just humid and sticky with no cool breezes. Give me some rain please.
