Would be good to get sight of SP1 and then there would be no problem leaving 7 behind but until that time, not yet, plus I'd have to do the same compatibility checks on the software I use that everyone else will.

Pretty much anything that currently runs on 7 will run on 10, the only issue is if you're still using XP or earlier stuff.

Right I'm going to give this one more try. This time I'll just go for a full clean install from usb and activate it with my win7 code which apparently is the way to do it if the upgrade malarky is playing up. Just need to tuck away some drivers and bits for the other end.

Luck....wish me some.

I did once have a similar issue trying to upgrade my son's PC to Windows 10 as it would keep failing at around 80 or even 90% done and would revert back. I tracked down every single folder that had been semi installed and used disk cleanup and wiped all traces of the partially installed Win 10 and tried again. It worked.

So basically what happens is if you've attempted it several times it will be stuck in a semi limbo were some of the files are still partially installed but the overall OS hasn't taken. Best of luck mate.

well a clean install using a media installation and setting boot priority to usb drive worked. It needed doing anyway my SSD primary drive was cluttered to shit and now I have nice new clean drive. Just about to fill it up with fresh copies of the stuff I was playing. The only things I kept were the witcher 3 savegames the rest went byebye.

Your platitudes must have worked Dav :) cheers

Its alright this win 10, at least dx12 is there for the using when required now an all.

Is it possible to install Win 10 onto a totally fresh drive whilst keeping 7 on the main HD? I wouldn't mind being able to dual boot into both.

I'm pretty sure it's a case of cashing in your Windows 7 key for a Windows 10 one. Unless there's some hack, you don't get both.

Windows Store game downloads lack features of Steam equivalents...

Basically no windowed mode, no SLI/Crossfire, Vsync cant be turned off, no modding, no mouse macros etc

Some of those are pretty huge omissions.

I think they are less omissions and issue arising from the fact that it's an app store that they are trying to shoehorn games into. It wasn't built/designed to do what they now want to do with it.

Bearing in mind the semi-illegal levels of bollocks that come with Windows 10, is there ANY point to installing it if Windows 7 does what I need it to?
