Lancaster's HMV shut this evening. There was a van outside collecting the display shelves while the place was still open. I'd have hated to work there today.

Sounds like Woollies all over again and in the end I never went back to my old branch, will have to check with my brother to see if they'll try to stay open to Easter.

Heed's right, except he left out the re-relaunched Play.com. They seem all ready to be a marketplace after Easter with Zavvi one of their biggest outlet customers already just in case people don't look at the "home" site.

Saves bumping an even older thread, but GAME are opening even more new shops.

Because when your business collapses in on itself due to too rapid an expansion, the best thing to do when you've just been bailed out is to continue opening shops. Obviously.

Aside from selling a few extra bits and bobs the GAME business model hasn't changed one jot. It's still the same crappy store it has been for a number of years and I still don't shop there. I predict it'll be gone for good by this time next year.

I went into a Game on the weekend and they had a lot more demo units in there than I had ever seen in a Game store before. Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, 3DS, PSP Vita and some tablets were all hooked up for people to play. It was the first time I had been in a Game since they went into administration so I don't know if this is a nationwide thing or just a one off for Watford, but it's a good idea if they are rolling it out to more stores. It always seemed strange that most Game stores had no demo units with the Oxford Street one having about two.

However it does seem strange that they are opening more stores.

The Oxford Street store shuts tonight for good. They plan to open up a smaller shop at 363 Oxford Street instead.

Sports Direct will be taking over the old HMV store.

They did give their staff a few quid as a bonus a couple of years ago, I wonder if they still run the same scheme

The big one in Manchester is going. Not surprised though as it's been fucking wank since it reopened.

Sports Direct were in the Plaza nearly next door weren't they, the rent must be around the same. If they couldn't keep the Bond Street site because of Crossrail then it makes sense to cut down the rent.

The website on the other hand is another all-about-tablets-and-smartphones disaster. If they think not giving people an online shop will make them go to the stores, hasn't worked around here and Zavvi and Amazon have had my money instead.

One near me is going soon according to the banners plastered over it when i popped in last weekend. Another empty shop in a high street full of empty shops...
