Time to upgrade...

Postby Eny » Sat Nov 05, 2016 12:37 pm

Right, I'd like to play Mafia and Dishonoured 2, so it is time to upgrade Mobo, Chip, GFX and memory.

What I have:

Asus P7P55D-E LX
Intel i5 760 @2,8GHz, socket 1156LGA
8GB in 2 x 4GB DDR3 Corsair CMX8GX3M2A 1600C9
MSi GTX570 Twin Frozr

I'd like to get it all replaced with a budget of £250 ish. ASUS and, especially for GFX, MSi are brands I'd like to stick with.

Any help you can offer will be muchly appreciated. :D

How old is that processor? £250 is not a lot to get the cpu mb and gfx replaced.

Maybe knock off the GFX for now, and add a £100.... :s

Pretty good value, solid over clocking potential.

They do H110 chipset bundles too which are cheaper, but they are balls and can't oc the CPU.

That looks quite tempting, thanks. Ive never felt the need to bother overclocking tbh, so not too bothered about that.

What if I upped my budget to £500? Nothing too flashy, don't need SLI or owt, just something that'll last me the 5 years my last build has.

Add a £150 GPU....

If you ain't over clocking, go for the middle chipset (forget what they are called) and a 6600 (non-k). Will free up cash for another 8GB of memory

Thanks for your help so far guys. I just wanted to check these are all compatible:

Asus Z170-P Socket LGA1151 Motherboard

Intel Core Skylake Processor i5-6500/3.2 GHz Processor CPU

Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4 3000 MHz CL15 XMP 2.0 High Performance Desktop Memory Kit - Black

£391.62 all from Amazon, 1 day delivery free, as I'm on a Prime trial.

[edit] I changed the mobo to a Z170-P from a H-110, looks worth the extra 50 notes...
