And another new monitor...

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

If you're not bothered about OLED, then there are lots of good IPS 1080p monitors with nice-ish designs below £180.

Take your pick:

The good thing about IPS is that it's very hard to get a bad one. Find a design you like and then check here for a review: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews.htm

I'll be buying a new monitor myself soonish and also want a wide view but after owning a 144hz screen with 1sec refresh rate I dont think I could look at another monitor with 60hz or lower or not have G-Sync.

But then you're getting into the region on more than £500

Those are all very nice features to have but you make a good point. One you start buying high-end stuff it's hard to go back, leaving you stuck in the loop of always needing to buy the top stuff. I'll purposely aim lower until nice displays are more common and reasonably priced. :P

Oh, and for anyone wondering, I'm going with the X24 after all. Yeah, there are cheaper ones, but it's the design that I'm really after, and nobody is making them quite as thin and minimal as Lenovo, it seems. Will no doubt report back if it's a howler.

Depends on how wide, 21:9 with that feature set will be closer to £8-900 :P
IMO :P  :P  :P

Just head to the range or some discount shop or other and buy some of those irritating scatter cushions to take the attention away. The irritating the better I've found.

Ok, got the new monitor. It's big and colourful and I've yet to notice anything weird from the response time. I'll load up Brutal Doom in a bit and then we'll see how it performs under duress. ;)

That said, I'm noticing vertical lines on bright solid colours. I'm assuming it's something to do with the "pixel density". Screen door, or whatever? I understand this is an issue when keeping the same resolution, but moving up to a larger and brighter screen, right?

Just trying to figure if it's something I'll get accustomed to, or if there's actually a problem here. :-k

Edit: Doom was amazing. The amped up lighting in this source port looked so good. As for refresh rate, I couldn't notice anything, even while blasting demons at a million MPH.

Now to play an actual modern game. :-k

Right. This is driving me daft. I work with a lot of bright colours, so to have them showing up almost 2-tone is not particularly clever.
Seriously, is this an accepted problem with large monitors, or is it a fault? Trying to figure if I can return this without getting stung with extra fees.

As its only a 24" monitor you should have no problems with colours, if possibly can you take a photo if it'll show-up in a picture.

My crappy cellphone camera doesn't show anything.
I'm pretty sure this is my eyes playing tricks on me. Damn it. Unless this is going to work itself out, I can't really continue to use this monitor when everything looks wonky. I mean, after hearing about how good IPS was for displaying colours, this isn't going to cut it.

Does it look like this? (Blues in the background)

What connectors are you using? Do you experience the issue if you swap to another one?

Also, have you tried playing with the monitor settings at all?

Crazy thing. I can't seem to find any monitor settings.

I'm not sure what I'm looking for in the steam picture. I know it's not an issues with gradients.

Ok, how does this look:

On my old monitor, that's a solid colour. On the new monitor, it's kind of like this:

Which the as best I can emulate the look in MSPaint.

Oh right, yeah that'll be pixels. How close do you sit to your monitors?! Definitely shouldn't be an issue at 1080p even on a 24" monitor.

I'm about 23, 24 or so inches away. That can't be considered too close, can it?
