Eyes On a PC Build

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Did you buy the GPU from a online store? If so you are entitled by the distance selling act for a refund. Check under your link for it :)

Online, mail and phone order sales
Online, mail and telephone order customers have the right to cancel their order for a limited time even if the goods aren’t faulty. Sales of this kind are known as ‘distance selling’.

You must offer a refund to customers if they’ve told you within 14 days of receiving their goods that they want to cancel. They have another 14 days to return the goods once they’ve told you.

You must refund the customer within 14 days of receiving the goods back. They don’t have to provide a reason.

Nope. Bought it in person.
Who'd have thought that'd be the thing to screw me over? :P

Could always walk in and say your mobo doesn't support it and need the refund since it won't work? But you're sticking with it no point then :)

Honestly, I'm not sure why I was even entertaining the idea of returning it. A 980ti would have been super fun, but from my vague understanding of the rumours, what comes next will kick some asses. With that in mind my plan was always to get the 970 as a hefty stop-gap.

Now, I can get back to fretting over what to fritter my money away on.

Overclockers have an Asus GTX 970 for £229.99, think I'll bite at that price.

EDIT: If the site stops crashing.

All sorted and I get a free copy of Assassins Creed Syndicate. Plus the card is all white.

For a game and card? Man, that's a great price. :D

Also, I'm back feeling all hot and heavy on the old computer guts upgrade. I've not been dissuaded yet, even in the face of all the evidence saying my current set up is just fine. :-k

With plans to get an expensive GPU next year and with benchmarks showing that high end i7 style CPU and RAM are, and will only continue to become more relevant as this generation of games wears on, I'm just going to bite it and go all in.
Sad truth about how I handle my disposable money is that I'm terrible at saving and will spend it at the first opportunity. Might as well go in on something that'll last and be used every day. Not the best at managing my finances but there you go. :P

A Socket 1151 i7 CPU will provide you with minimal frame rate benefits compared to the processor you currently have. It is only worth the upgrade if you make extensive use of CPU-sapping software like the Adobe Suite or video editing OR multi-tasking like streaming a game whilst playing OR if you begin to move up the resolution chain beyond 1080p. You'd still have been better off getting a different GPU if you really want to spend money, or waiting till the next revision of CPUs.... But hey it's your money.
