Internet borked after power cut.

Postby Jez » Tue Aug 25, 2015 6:59 am

Had a power cut to our street night before last. Ever since my Internet to my desktop is borked :(

WiFi is working fine so it's not the hub or the supply in.

When I run diagnostics I get an error

Local area connection doesnt have a valid ip configuration.

Any ideas here fellas?

You could try to reset the ip and flush the dns from the command prompt.

Just copy and paste the following lines, use the mouse to right click and paste though or you will just end up with a ^ in the command prompt

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

See if that helps bud.

Try doing a full power off including the PSU and then power back on and see if that helps?

Otherwise you can try and set a static IP in Network configuration in the 192.168.1.X range with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and see if that will let you access the router (usually on 192.168.1.254)?

Yeah, there should be a seperate I/O switch on the PSU itself but if you unplugged it and let all the capacitors discharge (all the lights go out) then that should be sufficient. Hmmm..

For Lee's stuff you want to do it one at a time in the command prompt.

Also if you have any other ports on the router to try, or any other cables, or even any other wired devices you can plug in that may help determine the issue. It's possible that the power cut has shorted the Ethernet ports on the router but it would be incredibly localised if so!

And not to be bone but once I've done this and assuming g it connects ok should I go back into those settings and let it automatically assign the ip?

You'll want to check your routers dns settings and make sure they're working OK. I assume they are if your WiFi is working OK. Basically this will just check whether there is a software issue with the router giving your pc an ip by forcing it to be on the same network. If it doesn't work then it's likely hardware

Aye should be fine to once connected again. But check the routers settings first to double check everything. Should be able to access by a web browser and typing in say for example 192.168.0.100 to get to the routers settings.

Check your manual or find the routers model number on it and google it to find out how to access it :)

Those ideas didn't seem to work. The diag runs and just says it couldn't identify the problem. Are these photos any help?

Try disabling the network then re-enabling it?

If that means right clicking on the adapters and disable then aye :)

Why do I have two adapters listed though is that the same for everyone?

Yep it was and only if you have two ports. That Tap adapter v9 I've never seen before. What firewall/antivirius software are you using?
