Internet borked after power cut.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Lord knows. The system reset isn't that intrusive, but it's also unlikely to fix the cause of the problem. Do you really only have one ethernet port? I've got 4 on mine and it's only a HH4!

They should be the yellow ones and not the red one? If you're in the red one this might be why it's not working, as that's designed to connect to the Fibre modem if you're on Infinity.

I am on infinity (I think). I have 4 yellow ones. One of which takes the supply from the wall socket into the hub. The connector on that is a smaller one like what goes into a phone handset. Then there's a single red socket on the hub that has a larger ethernet connection that goes into the pc.

I tried using another yellow socket no luck. Christ alight.

If you're on Infinity then you'll have a second modem, like this (the top one):

Does the back of your router look like this:

The home hub 5 apparently doesn't need the open reach grey boxy thing. My hub does look like that yes. Sorry my supply from wall socket comes in to the little grey connector on the left of that picture.

My link to the WiFi extender goes into one of the yellow ones and the supply to the pc goes from that red one.

Hmm.. interesting!

In which case have you tried your wi-fi extender in the same port that the PC is using and seeing whether that stops working?

The red port only exists to run the BT Infinity Modem, so you shouldn't have been using it, and I have no idea why it would have worked and then not :P

I just don't understand how it worked in the first place at all and for over 3 years to boot with nary an issue either until the power cut the other night.

I'm a complete tech Duffus me. I can't thank you two enough for schooling me a bit in the world of networking. It'll come in handy elsewhere I don't doubt.

it would have been a far more useful use of their time to just bloody say to to stick the cable in the yellow connections.
