No we didn't move forward in time and suddenly it is April the 1st, Google Inc really is becoming Alphabet Inc.

No Joke, they're just renaming the umbrella company from Google Inc to Alphabet Inc and then making Google a "subsidiary". It just means that their non-google companies are no longer owned by Google but owned by Alphabet. It's more of an internal structure thing than anything relevant to us end users.
