I've just recently upgraded and went with the HTC One and I am very happy with my purchase. I think it is a much nicer looking phone and the shape has a much nicer feel to it. It does pretty much everything else that the Galaxy does apart from the eye and no-touch scrolling. In the end they are both excellent phones and it probably comes down to how you feel about the designs of both. I'm equally happy with my HTC as I managed to get it on a 18 month plan.

Bumping forward in time, I'm getting fed up of burners if they won't let you top up an existing number and a newer budget smartphone would be good, is there any point trying to differentiate between the 50 gazillion Android models out there or is it all about the price? I think Vodafone crashed their prices to 20 quid for the basic model so that would be a start.
Alternatively have Windows phones improved a little bit and is it an equal-opportunity hackfest when it comes to security? Planning to get on with Windows 10 before the deadline so any Winphone users let me know how they've been to use, or are they only a good bet if thinking about a contract tie-in?
