Need a new motherboard

Postby zwingly » Tue Dec 18, 2012 4:56 pm

Hello all.

Whilst just starting to get into Dark Souls, my old Gigabyte GAH55M-UD2H motherboard decided to die on me. :( Could anyone recommend a good replacement?

The cpu and gpu I'm using at the mo are an Intel i5 (Socket 1155) and Geforce 460GT, respectively. Seeing as I have a backlog of games that work perfectly fine with these components, I'm not in a hurry to upgrade them in the near future. My budget is under £100.

Thanks.

Assuming you are not overclocking the CPU at all, and that you don't need a full sized board with a million bells and whistles (that no one ever really needs)
Make sure it's at least H77 or Z68 chipset and go M-ATX.

I'd suggest Gigabyte, ASUS or MSI as a brand.

Or, just buy the same board again :)

I have an MSI Z77- G45 with my 15 2500k.

It's serving me VERY well. I think you can grab it for £66 these days. Also ,for a motherboard, I think it looks rather nice :

Got your usual bells and whistles.

(the bottom input is actually a DVI, no idea what the one under thew VGA is)

Check Newegg and Toms Hardware obviously. It's not the best board, and isn't ideal for OC (though you can still do it easily) but I love it for the price that it's at. Probably one of the best I've had for anything under £120.

Literally ordered one before seeing your post Sigor! Should be coming tomorrow. Price wise, it's the same as the board you posted.

Cheers for posting nonetheless. :)

I went for this:

Should I stick with this one, or would it be worth sending it back and getting the one you recommended?

Oh Emaharg has that one. Stick with it :) The two are very similar and you'll not notice any difference anyhow. :)
