Windows 7 CD/DVD Driver missing on install

Postby Edwin » Wed May 23, 2012 4:01 pm

So I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my new hard drive (see other thread ¬_¬) using a genuine Windows 7 disc and when I click install windows I get a "CD/DVD Driver missing" message even though it is booting from a disc.

Googling just brings up loads and loads of threads where people have had a similar problem using a downloaded version of windows. So what do I do?

That is what I have been doing. The new hard drive doesn't have anything on it at all so it boots from my windows 7 disc, loads a bunch of shit for about ten minutes then tells me it needs drivers for the CD/DVD drive it has just been using. If only computers could be fixed with a hammer :x

Oooooh I see. Try changing the SATA operation setting in the BIOS from IDE to ATA or AHCI.

EDIT: If that doesn't work you could make a bootable USB? http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/24 ... reate.html

Right I've done it.

What I did was copy all of the information from the DVD onto a flash drive then boot from the CD. Once I got the "CD/DVD Driver missing on install" message I plugged the flash drive, the error came up again. So I cancelled the installation, started it again and it worked perfectly.
