Bloody hell, that's a fair bit of cash spent!

Yeah I don't use it for movies either, got a plex server running. Waiting for a cheaper box to put under the TV for plex.

When streaming Plex to an iOS device, where is the conversion done? Is it on the server or the device, or a bit of both? Will iPad2 be a noticable amount better at streaming content, HD or otherwise, than iPad1?

100% the server.

The advantage the iPad 2 will have is the mirrored 1080p output.

iPad 1 can only output to 720p.

But in terms of actual playback on the device, it shouldn't make a huge difference then?

Also, 1080p output is great and all that, but presumably that only works for files stored on the device in HD. If I'm streaming from a plex server which is downscaling the video to a managable definition for the iPad, it won't then output it in the original definition. So that's not really a factor.

OK guys, help needed fast.

iMac has arrived. Need to set up Net connection. Don't have a clue how it works.

Netgear DG834GT setup. Using PPPoA, WEP key all of that. iMac recognises i7 network (my network name), connect enter key doesn't seem to do anything. Don't know what I'm missing.

Anyone got a step by step?

WPA protocol used. I have no idea. Router recognises the iMac's MAC address. iMac recognises my network. iMac says in the System Dialog its connected giving me info on signal strength etc.

Airport says its Connected yet doesn't have an IP address and is not connected to the Internet. No amount of restarts haven't helped either.

Don't know if my router is incompatible, didn't know you had to have a Mac compatible router. Tried altering firewall settings and Accepted Devices lists on the router settings also.

Don't think there's such a thing as "Mac compatible router", they should talk to each other okay. Funny one this, anymore info you can give us?

Nothing I can think of right now. Going to have another go later. If anyone knows of any guides on connecting an Imac to a Netgear router, that would be wonderful thanks :)

YES!

Done it :D

Went into my router settings and discovered it was ticked to operate as a DHCP server (which I forgot all about) went into Network Diagnostics and selected DHCP, waited for 60 seconds, green lights started flashing on screen and we were away. WAHOO.

Bought one before the weekend on a whim and I bloody love it.
