Apple ][

Postby Hyssy » Thu Mar 24, 2011 10:07 am

Tomorrow is iPad 2 launch day in many places around the world. Queues have already formed at the Sydney store, with one person expected to have spent 50 hours waiting before he gets one (incidentally, his second, as he has come over from Canada).

There's something about these big releases....

I now declare the new Apple thread, open!

Quite looking forward to being able to pick up a slightly cheaper iPad 1 now actually.

I'm still really torn about whether to get one.

I wanted to pick up an iPad 1, Three is doing a good deal with 16GB 3G variant, 15GB data for 20 a month. But really, what would I use it for? :/

Three seem to do some really great deals; apart from the 24 month contract that's a winner (I'd prefer to pay more and have a short contract). If something similar applies to iPad 2 then it's going to be very tempting.

But I think I'm settled that I'm selling my 16GB+3G, and going to a 64GB wi-fi only. When I get a new iPhone later this year I'll get it on Three for the unlimited tethering.

If anyone wants a well looked after original iPad, with box, charger, manuals etc, and with the Apple neoprene case, wing me a PM.

Interesting question...

It was £529 when I bought it, reduced to £429 recently, and refurbs are £389...

But it's in perfect condition, and has the case... £330 inc postage?

EDIT: Fark, just realised that the wi-fi only models don't have GPS. That could be an annoyance...

What would you use the GPS for? Maps?

Yeah, it's been a handy backup since my iPhone has been unreliable since I dropped it in the bath, and I've needed maps a lot recently since I moved flat.

Under normal circumstances it probably wouldn't be such a big deal, but I may stump up for the 64GB with 3G just for the GPS.

I was in Dublin Airport today and they were advertising the iPad 1 16GB Wi-Fi for €325 in the little Dixons there. That's about £286. I was in the process of buying one and picking up a couple of accessories when the sales assistant discovered there were none left :(

So instead I'm just going to try and get an iPad 2 tomorrow evening on my way home from work. Last year you were literally able to walk into Curry's and buy one on Day 1, when the Apple Store in Glasgow were sold out for weeks again. Hopefully the same is true again, otherwise I'll try Argos and various branches of PC World on Saturday morning.
