Do you like Geometary Wars? Do you have an iPhone? Get Infinity Field. It is brilliant. The controls are perfect too. You won't regret it!

So I was getting HELLAfrustrated with The Creeps until I realised you can upgrade the weapons

Also, the controls on Another World are nice. No onscreen Dpad, just swipes and presses. Work very well. Although yeah maybe wait, since I've championed controls you've hated more than once now!

So I've been waiting for a decent Master of Orion style 4X game since I got my iPad at the end of last year, because it's a device that seems absolutely perfect for it, and finally there's a decent candidate. It's called Starbase Orion, and as the name suggests, it basically *is* Master of Orion, with a little bit of streamlining, and perhaps a reduced scale as there only appear to be 4 empires to play as. I've only played a few turns to get an idea of the interface, but it's just about identical to MoO2 with the addition of touchscreen support. It's a universal app, has retina display support, and is £2.99 at the moment. It seems to have support for Play By Email style gaming via Gamecentre. I'll report back when I've seen some combat.

And incidentally, Geodefence Swarm is my favourite iPhone game; it's well designed and challenging.

Ascendancy came out months ago Raid, you should try that. Classic 4x gaming.

I'll look into it.

Unfortunately the combat is pretty disappointing; you have next to no control over your ships. You give them a single AI style, then watch as they fly around shooting at the enemies. And it doesn't even happen all at once; it seems to take place over a number of game turns.

Robokill is super ace and free at the moment! Think Smash TV with upgrades and shops etc.

Neuroshima Hex is fab. Try the demo and watch the tutorial. The core rules are pretty simple but its actually quite hugely tactical. Mostly it works round an initiative system where you try and position your faster units to take out their slower more deadly units before they can do damage or take out the upgrade mods of slower units before they can use them. Its really worth trying, once you see how one move can have a domino effect on the rest of the units its pretty awesome.

Struggling to find anything that really grabs at the moment but Hyperlight is currently free on the app store - about as fun as I've seen recently! Recommended for a quick 5-10 minspin here and there!

Just spotted that this is on offer - never seen if for Free until now!:

http://appshopper.com/games/ascension-c ... -godslayer

It's a brilliant little card game - picked it up a few months back, and for Free i'd snap it up in half a second!

Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer, is the first officially licensed deck building card game for iOS. Play alone or with friends to battle against the Fallen One for honor and victory. Conceived and designed by three Magic: the Gathering tournament champions, Ascension will provide hours of engaging and strategic game play for enthusiast and experienced gamers alike.

Go get, peoples!

EDIT:

Just noticed that Bard's Tale is also on offer at Free! average DnD runner in my personal opinion, but have heard good feedback!
