random mouse input

Postby The Bag » Thu Jul 19, 2007 2:44 pm

This morning I was getting random mouse input on whatever window was active - random scrolling up & down, forward/back button (mouse button 4 & 5) input.

Is this a virus (I've had a look around but can't see anything) or is my mouse finally dying after seven years (MS optical mouse) faithful service. Anyone had anything similar?

My MS 'Wheel Mouse Optical' (no extra buttons) died after two years, so you should be thankful. Mine wasn't particularly random inputs though - left click just became over-sensitive and would stay clicked-on or would double-click instead of single.

Yours is doing different buttons, and it's pretty unlikely so many buttons would fail at the same time...

I had the same problem a long time ago. I still have that mouse now and it works fine and I recall that I couldn't find anything to resolve it so I just formatted.

Definately a virus.

I had it with my old ball mouse aeons ago. used to jump around the screen at the slightest touch and both buttons would seem to be on permanent rapid-fire mode. I ended up opening windows I didn't know existed by accident.

I think I just replaced the mouse.

Change the mouse and if you get the same thing, then run the virus scan.

The other day I thought something was up with my mouse wheel, when every time i tried to scroll up a page it kept scrolling back down immediately.

Turns out I had my thumb on the spacebar.
