The most visible changes are ripping off Opera's (and Chrome's) visual bookmark boxes on the starter page and a few other default options on the homepage, but I've also stuck adblock and noscript on with Firefox now, for as long as those add-ons work with whatever version number it is, I'm cool as I use Opera for most things nowadays.

If you have a linkedin account then change your password. There has been a bit of a boo boo.]

http://blog.linkedin.com/2012/06/06/lin ... mpromised/

If you have reused the password anywhere else then change it. In general, don't reuse passwords and certainly don't reuse passwords between important accounts (banking, email, social media*).

Although the file doing the rounds doesn't include usernames or email addresses I think it's reasonable to assume that the person who accessed the passwords has these.

* Not everyone would say social media is important. Having dealt with the fall out of Facebook accounts (personal and corporate) getting into the wrong hands then I would say they are important.

At least now people have a ready-made job interview answer for why they're not on LinkedIn, I knew it couldn't be trusted.

You need a reason to not be part of a social network?

I'm just looking ahead and hoping to God that familiarity with social media won't become a commonplace requirement in business and the workplace like having a mobile phone, put it that way. LinkedIn was a hackfest waiting to happen and I'm happy that I wasn't on there to be hit, though I fully understand the same could happen to Facebook etc.

You can add last.fm and eHarmony to the list.

It's not a good day to be a job seeking, music listening, loner.

10-13 Winupdates

In Windows 8 maybe auto-update will mean they happen on the actual patch day, not 24hrs later...

13.0.1 just downloaded, presumably to fix the widespread reports of crashing with Flash 11.3. We should be lucky it wasn't v14.0 and they left the fault there.

Firefox is at it again, it flagged up a potential phishing attempt disguised as Hotmail's login. It could be a false positive of course but sadly it took five days since I reinstalled for it to decide to warn me at all and co-incided with hassles with internet banking. Reset the router, full AV sweep, cue changing lots of passwords and wasted time today that I didn't need and I just give up with it now until they quit this Chrome production line release nonsense.

So now time to re-check on Safari, nothing to lose, had already set up Opera with favourite sites on speed dial and if there's a problem, Opera just fixes it without a new one every five minutes making version numbers meaningless. Just have to do a couple of other checks before I'm happy with the new install.

All that general FF stuff happened on the day this DNS virus was meant to hit, everything else that happened with my PC fitted the general symptoms so spent the day changing passwords on everything that fit the timeframe and reinstalling AV and having a general scan about.

For me, no big deal if I already changed them all a week ago, this time round just because I don't know which passwords they might actually have, I changed the ones I use all the time, but there's two I never use anymore and I'm going to leave them purely to see if anything happens. Two changes in a fortnight are enough without making a tinfoil hat about it.

10-13 Winupdates

Including Office but Win Defender should have updated separately before this lot.
