Gaming Time Machine - What Would You Kill?

Postby Medicine Man » Wed Mar 21, 2018 4:08 pm

I'm getting a little sick of everybody droning on about what game or series they'd like to see reanimated from the dead for the old remastered treatment these days and I was thinking how about the opposite.

If you could go back in time and completely eradicate a game franchise from history what would it be?

I mean eradicate in the sense that it would be removed completely from history without a trace, like it never existed kind of thing.

To get the ball rolling and as much as it pains childhood me to say this, but my choice would be Sonic the Hedgehog.

Image

Seriously get this shit to fuck, a total holocaust of a franchise. 3 decent games in nearly 30 years cannot redeem everything that blue hedgehog has come to represent. Kill it dead before it can be born and the world would be a much better place.

Now you go...

Diablo. I loved it back in the day but I hate that so many games with potential are ruined by loot grind.

or

CoD4 because I hate that progression pish thats ruined many a shooter for me. Grind 30hours to get the gun you like. Fook orf!

But sonic has given us much laughs from it's fantastic fans around it MM!

I don't think I have a game series that I would love to erase from history. Maybe Battlefield as that started out so great and just is horrible to see what it's become now.

World of Warcraft, for resulting in a decade of godawful clones, many of which I bought in the vain hope that one day I might find one that was actually worthwhile.

I've always been a bit of a connoisseur with games, so I've always avoided even buying various games which I knew wouldn't be my cup of tea, or were clearly a load of shite.

Kinda difficult to know what I'd get rid of. Maybe all MMO's, on other people's behalves. Some of the repeated grind I read/hear about in some of them is bonechilling.

Final Fantasy, all the games are terrible and people should stop wasting their time on them and play a good RPG. :)

I was honestly just about to post the very same Dj. :)

And with FF gone those very people would have been playing better games for decades now. Think of the progress we could've made as a species. In all honesty we'd probably be living on Mars by now.

I’d go as far as almost all JRPGs, just make visual novels, it’s what they all are anyway.

I've never played the FF games but I did notice RPS and others gushing about the new one. Anyone here tried that?

I’ve just started it - the first Final Fantasy I’ve played since VIII. I’m only an hour or so in and it’s so far so generic, but not bad. A bit bland, maybe. I’ll report back when I’m further in.

I played 7 and liked it, 8 was a bit meh and that's it for my FF experience.

That Ni No Kuni 2 sounds good, though. Didn't play the first one but might keep an eye on that for future price drops.
