I'm going to try and play something from my backlog, then not do that and play The Witcher 3 again.

Yep, just started another play through myself. So now that vein has been reopened I guess that's my Christmas game sorted. I suppose I could hang about Skellige that's kind of Christmassy right?

I usually play whatever I get for Christmas which this year will be Assassins Creed Origins and hopefully Yakuza Kiwami.

It's funny how we associate games with times of the year. Whenever I see Orcs Must Die I think of Xmas/New Year, because I happened to play it for the first time on boxing day around 7 or 8 years back.

I guess Xenonauts is going to be my christmas game this year. Chrimbonauts.

It better be good.

I enjoyed it so fingers crossed.

I don't really have an Xmas game - I always used to enjoy wandering round Azeroth at Xmas time, bit no way am I ripping the scab off that healed addiction!

I fired up Watch Dogs 2 last night and started again on it. I remembered enjoying it so a replay is in order I think.

I always associate the sticky summer period with playing World of Warcraft so I agree it can be odd that games somehow become relative to specific seasons in our own minds.

And just like that, Arkham Origins is on sale right now for £3. Another to add to the collection.

EG have put up an interesting article that belongs in here...

That the impact of the seasons on landscapes has permeated into game design, providing us with immense, beautiful scenery and important, world-finishing, narrative-helping environments, makes them all the more immersive and memorable - demonstrating the importance now afforded to the art of placemaking in games. For those of us that often miss out on a real winter landscape, these ones provide valuable, virtual alternatives.

Well I had an hour earlier playing Subnautica. Nice gentle little game that's really beautiful. I bought this about a year ago and they have added much to it since then. Story elements, added eye candy act. It's the sort of game that you can boot up to play for 30 mins and end up in there for 4 hours just pootling about doing various things.

Really like it.

For the perfectly themed Christmas environment (and quite frankly a beautifully realised game world all round) it has to be The Division.

The visual aesthetic is simply sublime.

Shame the gameplay is very meh after awhile. The bullet spongey enemies taking 50 or more headshots just warps any sense of reality.

A criticism I can understand and empathise with, that is the case certainly early on. Once you have some decent gear with useful stats/talents even the most heavily armoured enemies drop quickly. A glass cannon sniper build can 2-3 shot bosses for example.

I can understand why that pushes many gamers away from the game though. A shame really as it is one of my favourite stress relieving co-op shooters.

Yes. I often felt they needed more numbers of enemies and less bullet sponges to make up the difficulty.

Other than that the setting is great.

It taught me though that loot based grind games aren't my thing whatsoever.

I've wound up starting a new character in Skyrim, actually, and am presently wandering around the mountain headed for the Greybeards. Funny, I didn't give it much thought that it's Christmas time :)
