Yes, that's one I knew. Pretty boring in comparison. Although, that's the sequel (I just noticed). I don't know if I ever saw the cover of the original...

Do love that Doom cover. It really captures the feel of the game quite nicely.

ICO on the PS2 had a cover that got your attention. One of the few instances where I picked up a game just from the art on the cover, without knowing a single thing about it.

inXile did a thing with the Wasteland 2 cover, which echoed the first game's cover. Nifty.

Also pretty much any Psygnosis published game.

I think cover's done for digital games should still count. I'm a bit hazy on most of the cover art I have, but I remember liking this one back in the day.

It's interesting seeing the differences in box art between US and UK releases.

Had a BBC Mirco back in the late 80's. The games where ok to middling but I loved the cover art.

This thread quickly went from post your 'favourite' to 'post any old shit you've played'.

Yeah, which is kinda why I stipulated in the first post that I only want to see favourite art, not games you just so happen to like. ¬_¬

Thing is, game cover design -- like many things -- has shifted away from actual art (like the kind used for DOOM or The Secret of Monkey Island) into mere graphic design. It's boring. But it's cheap and easy to produce, so it makes the most economic sense.

Those are all great; I would have lapped them up as a child. I especially like that Hobbit one at the end.

From my Amiga days, I always loved the simplicity of the Dune 2 cover. Plus Syndicate's was great too:
