So JC3, BLOPS 3 and Fallout 4 all fall under the "more of the same" category while two of them shipped with a fair amount of technical issues across all platforms. Black Ops 3 surprisingly released with hardly any issues whatsoever and yet somehow Fallout 4 and its made by Bethesda tag gets it an 8. Friends and massive fans of the series tell me it's a pretty weak game with some major hand holding and lack of any true sense of choice. Star Wars Battlefront released as pure fan service with a minimal yet extremely costly game tagged on to it which EA now plan to completely abuse as a new IP from this day forward in a galaxy far, far away. Use the greed Luke.

As I'll never buy Fallout 4 or Battlefront and am still waiting for JC3 to be fixed to a playable state I'm glad to own Black Ops 3 right now with its double XP weekends and extremely fun multiplayer and zombie modes. Quite the turn up for the books that one.

I'm not sure where your friends are getting the idea from that Fallout 4 holds your hand. The game's tutorial is pretty sparse and as soon as you leave the vault you are free to do whatever you please. Choice wise Bethesda games have never been about choice in terms of story, all the choice comes from how you build your character and what you do in the world so I don't get that complaint either.

It's also not especially broken for a Bethesda game.

Yeah, I haven't had a single crash and it runs as smooth as anything on full settings. Probably the most glitch-free Bethesda game I've played (on release).

Plus it's the most fun I've had with a game in years, so if anything I'd say 8/10 is too low. But then I really suit the Bethesda approach to RPG's, so perhaps I was always going to get the most out of it.

I'd say 8/10 for FO4 is probably fair, given it's an Edge review. It definitely has its faults, but then I could barely stop playing it for over a hundred hours, so clearly there is lots of fun to be had.

If you think of it less as an RPG and more a sandbox wasteland exploration game, you get a lot more from it I think.
My face is tired.

I can't honestly say the game is a RPG, it's a shooter with some RPG elements tacked on. Do agree it's one of the better performing game of the series though.

But story wise, quests, companions, lack of consenquences and that horrible perk system soured my experience. All done so much better in Fallout New Vegas.
