CD Key Stores

Postby Achtung Englander » Tue Dec 15, 2015 11:32 am

I didn't realise there were so many. I know of this one: http://www.cdkeys.com/pc but can anyone recommend any other safe ones. Not that I am in the market to buy more games, just fascinated by these stores

Did come across this compare website http://www.allkeyshop.com/blog/
Games playing : Syndicate / Valiant Hearts (XBO) / Warp

I've used Kinguin in the past and also Instant-Gaming who were both fine.

I've never had a problem with g2a, but it's definitely not the most confidence-inspiring website.

Safe ones? Not sure about that but there certainly is a lot of key sites.

Game Mafia
DLGamer
Gamesplanet
Funstock
G2Play
Code4Game
Gamesdeal
MMOGA
MacGameStore
WinGameStore
Sila Games
Coinplay
Game0lith
gamebillit
Games rocket
Fireflower
Nuuvem
Shiny Loot
DotEmu
Games Republic

Maybe used 2 or 3 of them without any issue Win and Mac Game Store and Funstock. Then of course you have your more supposedly reputable sites...

Green Man
GamersGate
Direct2Drive
Bundlestars
Indiegala
GetGames
IndieGameStand
Desura

CJS-cdkeys is one I've used a few times.

Blimey - talk about a cottage industry that sprung up around Steam.

So, what's the thoughts on the horror stories about these sites?
Connections to organized crime, nicked games being flogged and codes bought with stolen credit cards, that kind of thing? I felt a pang of guilt after buying a couple of games from CDKeys, so I read up on it and it sounds like a bad time. :?

From the sounds of it, you're buying a shadily sold product that could get pulled from your Steam/whatever account at a moments notice. Haha. Perhaps I've been scared by the capitalists in power, but I'd rather wait for a sale than buy something from the digital equivalent of the dodgy bloke with the binders at a car boot sale. :P

The only visible negative is that when things like Batman happen youre not eligible for a refund. But then neither are the folk that bought a boxed copy so stuff it! If Ruskis want to shoot each other to give me half price games, I'm fine with it. 8)

Other than the odd occasion where a site has ended up buying a few games that were original bought with a stolen credit card I think the bigger sites are totally legit and the scare stories surrounding them are a load of nonsense. They are reputable sites that have become so big that they are sponsoring a fair amount of esports now and you can't be doing that if your business is built on dodgy deals.

Yep DJ it's just the publishers wanting to scare you into spending the £40-50 for games instead of shopping around for a better deal.

GMG now tell you where their keys are sourced:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015- ... -come-from

I've bought lots of games from them and never had a problem. In a lot of cases they seem to get their keys directly from the publisher, so as far as I'm concerned it's 100% legit.

CDKeys on the other hand... I've bought a few games from them and all the keys have worked, but it's a bit suspicious when your key is delivered as a photo from an East-Asian physical copy. :?

When the majority of games come from 'Authorised Distributor' it's a little bit pointless. Valiant effort at transparency from them though. :)

I have no concerns over GMG though or any of the other so called big key sites for that matter. As a consumer I'm always going to look for the best deal for myself first and foremost, however I wont use a site if the old spidey sense starts a-tingling.
