Starcraft, Diablo II and Warcraft III remakes/re-releases

Postby DjchunKfunK » Thu Nov 05, 2015 2:24 pm

Blizzard have put a posting up on their site asking for someone to work on restoring some of their old games. The games they mention are Warcraft III, Starcraft and Diablo II. So it looks likely that at some point in the future we will see re-releases of those games.

I do think they picked the wrong titles, it should be Diablo and Warcraft II rather than the latter games. However it will be interesting to see if they attempt to upgrade the graphics in any way or if it is just a case of getting them to work flawlessly on modern systems.

Apparently not.

[UPDATE] Blizzard has provided the following statement to GameSpot on the matter.

"We need engineers to help maintain our legacy games. We have a history of maintaining our games for many years. Our earlier games are still played and enjoyed today, so we want to continue to maintain them for those communities."

So is this like a further "fuck you" to all the WoW players who have been wanting legacy servers for years? Nice work, ActiBlizz.

Diablo runs fine on Windows 7 by the way, I was playing it for a bit over the summer for a giggle, it hasn't aged well but at least I got to hear the Tristram music again

I dunno, I'd quite like a new version of Diablo 2, but I feel it'll just seem antiquated next to the sequel. I'd much rather they just introduced a few of the older classes into the newer game.

Wouldn't mind a updated Diablo 2 but it be tied into battlenet and probably forced online only and my interest would be right out of the window then :(

As I would like a Diablo 2 with updated models etc! I still love the artistic styling of it, the characters and the necromancer class. I have very fond memories of playing it :P

Yeah, the Necromancer was my favourite too. I never really liked the whole Voodoo aesthetic, so I've never even tried creating a Witch Doctor in Diablo 3, which I guess is the Necromancer's spiritual successor. Fun though I'm sure lobbing bottles of spiders at your opponents is, it's not quite the same as raising an army of the undead to do your bidding, is it?

Yep Necromancer from Diablo 2 just beats the living daylights out of the Witch doctor in the 3rd game.
