Ah cool the story stuff did make its way into the game. I might go back into this once it hits 1.0.

I can't believe Starbound has been in Early Access for nearly five years. The game finally leaves EA this month when 1.0 hits on the 22nd of July. Ever since I played the original EA version of the game I've said I'll wait until the game is out before jumping back in, nearly five years later and I'm not really that interested any more.

That's the thing about Early Access, by the time the game actually comes out the novelty has worn off and you're no longer bothered. I've not even played Prison Architect since it came out despite buying it early on in EA.

EDIT: There hasn't been an update on the project since December last year when they announced a delay to 2016, so not sure what is going on with development right now

Theyre still taking the time to tweet generic hype tweets so at least its not completely dark.

So I thought I would give Starbound a proper shot now it is finally out and I have to say that it is much improved from when I last played it. They have made a bunch of improvements such as adding NPCs to the world, putting more stuff on a planet to find and improving the combat so it doesn't feel as if you are getting as swamped from the start.

I really like the survival mechanics they have put in meaning you have to eat in order to keep hunger at bay which means hunting has more of a role as does the farming. The amount of things you can craft for your buildings as well has been greatly increased, so you can build much more interesting stuff. Finally layering a proper story and quest system over the top of everything has brought it all together nicely.

I think that with all this stuff they have put in, along with the many things I have yet to even explore, like creature collecting, this is now a step forward from Terraria where before it just felt like a pale imitation.

Some pictures of my current setup.

My garden complete with garden shed and a pod to drop off and sell my produce.

My main house right now. It's pretty simple with the basement used for storage and the top floor for crafting. How do you like my mushroom roof?

I've already visited one other planet in the same solar system, but you can buy a teleport and put it in your home so you can teleport back whenever you want.
