Ah Shenmue.

Are you one of the 'slacker backers' who didn't get your hand in pocket fast enough to give some of your hot cash to these panhandling bastards?

Well have I got a scheme for you...

The Slacker Backer period will continue through December 31st. While the full game will be completed as promised with the use of the funding collected on Kickstarter, any additional funding collected here will go towards reaching the Stretch Goals to make the game even bigger and deeper. The three month window was set to allow a long enough time to for everyone who wants to support Shenmue III to do so, but short enough to keep the release date on track.

The PayPal page will feature a selection of rewards from the Kickstarter campaign including the Trial Version and the Collector’s Edition. If you missed out on the Kickstarter, you still have a chance to be part of the Shenmue legacy!

So just paypal us your money no questions asked. :)

Some of the guys behind Giants Citizen Kabuto have formed a new studio and taken to Kickstarter with a pitch to create a spiritual successor. They are looking for $500,000 with a goal to release the game in 2016. It seems that they are only looking at having the two races so far, the giant called Monstro and the Cargonauts. As it stand there doesn't appear to be any plan to introduce a third race, so no sea witches.

If I'd seen that page without further context, I'd be avoiding this one. It's vague about what the game will do other than mechs in turn-based fights, and this whole business about it lacking any campaign content unless the thing vastly exceeds the "goal" looks awful.

HBS have earned trust by now and I expect them to produce something that feels BattleTechy, but it's an awful campaign.

I also find it a bit worrying that a project involving one of the creators of BattleTech doesn't seem to know what it actually refers to, because it's not the 3025 time period that KS page makes it out to be. It's a rule set. In fact, it's the original rule set, with the word Classic added on because someone, someone you'll see prominently on that KS page, thought it was dying and made a new BattleTech-based game. By the time all of that happened, the setting had long avanced past 3025.

Incidentally, the new one ceased production a number of years ago while the old one is still going.

Jon Hare is back with Sociable Soccer, a spiritual successor to Sensible Soccer.

Interview with Jon Hare

The social stuff sounds rather neat.

A cautionary Kickstarter tale; Sim Ant devs blow entire budget on booze and booty:

Sim Ant directors have disputed the claims, plan to sue the dev who made the booze and strippers allegations:

Plus the game was never Kickstarted, the campaign was for a set of Game Design Tutorials. I do wish the games media would take a bit more time to fact check a story before throwing it up online.
