Next month's early unlock for the monthly bundle is Civ 6. So basically pay $12 and get Civ 6 plus some other games. That's a pretty good deal if you ask me.

If you fancy getting it, please use my referral link. :)

Wow, given the fact that Civ VI still had a £30+ price tag throughout the christmas sales, that's a hell of a bargain.

Is it an indication of it's quality? Just saying. I know nothing about civ6.

Perhaps they're just wanting to get the game into more people's hands prior to the release of the expansion later this year. I don't know a huge amount about the game, but I know the AI was widely criticised for not being up to the standard of previous games' when it launched.

It still has some pretty big issues and the DLC model for it is outrageously expensive for what it offers. Overall it's not a bad game.

I think it's a pretty good version of Civ. It had issues when it first came out, as all Civ games do, but Firaxis have made an effort to fix a lot of them. Religion is a lot better than it used to be and the AI is no longer as aggressive as it once was. They have also gone some way to fixing the warmongering issues the game has.

I don't think a game appearing in the Humble Monthly Bundle should be seen as a sign of failure, they tend to get big games a year after release. Stuff like TW Warhammer, Stellaris, The Witness, XCOM 2 and Superhot have all been in bundles around a year after release.

I think the religion mechanic was an interesting idea to include as a victory condition, but the execution of it was dreadful. They've patched the issue where you couldn't move units through tiles occupied by religious combat units, which was absolutely necessary as the rate at which the AI spammed them often meant that you simply couldn't move your units at all when their army of missionaries turned up. It doesn't change the fact that you have to spam religious units yourself to have a meaningful impact on the mechanic though, which is incredibly dull and just drags your turns out massively.

The fundamental changes they've made to the happiness system, turning it into amenities, has also been a bit silly overall, as now you can simply spam cities all over the map without repercussion; and the AI will often put cities down within your territory even if there's only a tiny gap for them to do so and realistically the city will never grow beyond a single population.

The diplomacy system with the agendas is also still broken. It's incredibly difficult to maintain good relations with anybody by the halfway point of the game, everybody just hates you for various silly reasons and it completely screws over your ability to trade extra resources.

I've played Civ 6 a lot and in it's current state it really doesn't compare with pre-expansion Civ 5, which had it's problems too but nowhere near on this level. That said, the district system was a smashing idea and I'm hoping that the new expansion will address the issues listed above in some manner. You can't really go wrong by getting it on the Humble deal as you get other games thrown in too. I'd probably avoid playing it too much until the expansion comes out though.

Personally I think its much better than Civ 5 was pre-expansions. It's a much more fun game to play with the district system in particular being a great addition.

Going wide has always been the best strategy with Civ and the AI has always plopped down cities in stupid places, I don't think either of these are unique to Civ 6.

Huh. Not sure why I've not paid attention to the monthly thing before. Just under a tenner for a handful of high profile games, along with a rotating pile of indies? That sounds like a good deal to me.

Signed up for Civ 6, but I'm thinking I'll hang about and see where it goes.

They have just added Owlboy to the early unlock games for this months Humble Bundle. Everyone should play Owlboy because it's great.
