For most people who've played Morrrowind it's the other way round. Two steps forward in graphics and two steps back in everything else.

Pushing for maxium sales does that to a game. Oblivion would have been excellent if it had stuck to the previous titles of freeform gameplay, instead of making everything so half arsed :(

Oblivion is better than Morrowind.

There, I said it.

Boggy is right. And Daggerfall was better than it too.

This guy does a pretty good job of comparing the two.

Yeah, having all those shitty windows was a nightmare back then, if you had a low res you were fucked, trying to hide them all behind each other whilst still being able to click them to the front when needed. A simple tabbed interface is better, although it would have been enhanced by a grid item layout like Morrowind.

Really? For me the Morrowind interface is a thing of beauty, the best i've ever used. As big or as small as you want, drag it around, minimize bits the only limits are cackhandedness (admittedly I was running in a decent res but i don't think that can be a criticism of the game).
The oblivion one was a monstrosity of simplification. Lack of tooltips, obscure icons, fisher priced size, nested tabs and constant resetting. An absolute nightmare to navigate. everything so blatantly shaped for a controller.

Oblivion doesn't even look that great. However teh interface is more attractive, if it lets you do what you want/need to. I found that I didn't realise I had more than 1 spell for a good long while.

I've only played the console version and I think the interface is fine. Could maybe have done with having a couple other seperate tabs for books and keys as it's a hassle having to go through them all just to get a torch.

I agree with a lot of what the guy Reiver linked to says, but at other times he seems to be a bit of a whinger.

I agree with him on all his points, though.

He's a "Rogue" and he's wearing a robe. I question that.

Morrowind kicks Oblivions ass purely because it has a guy that falls out of the sky when his potion fails. Which you can then pick up and do the same.

His potion didn't fail, he just did, jumping 100million feet in the air is never a good idea.

Unless he plans it so he can land in the water, in which case it's quite a useful little tool to have around.
