Favourite Game

Postby Tommy » Sat May 17, 2008 10:51 pm

I know this comes up all the time probably, but what's your all time favourite game? It doesn't have to be something that hasn't aged, it can be something that you just have brilliant memories of, and wish you could clear your own memory so you could replay it for the first time again.

I'll start it, mine would definitely be Little Big Adventure 2. Everything worked. A farfetched, but exciting story, a soundtrack that played on your emotions, catchy tunes that really haven't aged at all, subtle humour throughout the story, and for me, it was the first game I really applied myself to complete. I wish they made them like that now, instead of 2 hour shit-heaps.

Of all time?

SMAC.

Unlike other games I love I can dig it out fine, I've not seen it all.
Runners up:
Thiefs
Dx1 (of course)
GTA3
HL1
Sim City 4
Civ II or IV (indecision)
Dwarf Fortress once the bloody irritating bugs are out of it

A few years ago I would've said Freespace 2, but I don't feel I can legitimately say this anymore.
Not because anything better has come along, but simply because I've not touched it in over 18 months.

I don't think any game has given me more enjoyment than Rise Of Nations... Dawn Of War coming a close second, possibly.

Oh, and RollerCoaster Tycoon.

They don't have to have aged well.

I think his point is that if it was his favourite he'd have replayed it since. Take the NOLF games and Mafia with me, I replay basically every year, so they'd be in contention for me.

Well, I think it has aged well.

It's just I've played it so many times that I know every line of dialogue off by heart and I can't be bothered anymore. ¬_¬

So maybe I'll say Flashpoint instead.

Then Oblivion, and Dungeon keeper.

As much as I'd like to say Portal, it's difficult choosing a 2 hour game after my 18 years of playing. There's a long list of other contenders; Halo 3, Halo, Final Fantasy 5, Super Mario Sunshine, Ninja Gaiden (the XBox version), Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Super Mario Brothers 3 and TIE Fighter.

Oh if only they'd remake TIE Fighter; put the Executor into a few missions, get James Earl Jones to re-record the Darth Vadar bits, give it a full orchestral soundtrack, and leave the briefing officer exactly as he was... it'd be the best game ever.

LBA2 would still be bettererererer.

I've got TIE Fighter on floppys somewhere, but I couldn't get into it.

I usually say Shenmue but I shallt doth mixeth it upeth, sire.

Guitar Hero 1 and 2. They're pretty much the same game so I'm not going to feel like I'm cheating by having them both. Easy to pick up, can be played for 5 minutes, usually ends up being played for hours, immense fun, superb feeling of satisfaction on nailing a song and it has a silly controller. I've been playing GH since it was released over here, which is quite a while.

I'll include Rock Band aswell since its pretty much a direct continuation and I'll probably still be playing it in two years.

It just wasn't the type of game I'd immediately go for!
