James Cameron Rebooting Terminator Franchise in 2019

Postby Prey » Sat Jan 21, 2017 7:59 am

James Cameron, who regains certain rights to his prized creation The Terminator in 2019, is godfathering a new iteration of the film that might finally get it right in drawing a close in the battle between humans and Skynet. Sources said that Cameron, whose copyright reversion happens 35 years after the release of the 1984 classic, is in early talks with Deadpool director and VFX wiz Tim Miller to direct a reboot and conclusion of one of cinema’s great science fiction tales.

Utterly true. That franchise has been torn to bits and put through every lawnmower going just leave it be now and make something new for God sake.

I mean, if it's Cameron getting to revisit it, then I'm somewhat hopefully it wont be utterly dire.

Not to say it's bulletproof, but I'd wager it'll be the best film since 2. :P

If Jim came up with some form of truly epic Hunter/Hunted formula that actually sounded interesting I'd be all in but as I still consider the first movie to be the best of the lot by far no doubt he will stick with his tried and tested T2 formula instead as a properly Cameron associated Titanic/Avatar money making machine is what the studios are asking of him and will accept nothing more and nothing less. I'd love to preach that hey if Jim Cameron can't breathe life back into it then nobody can but he himself is now far removed from being the highly prolific writer/director he once was known as being.

Unsure about Tim Miller as although I loved Deadpool he does seem more of a hot directors pick than anything and has no other directorial duties under his belt. Tom Hardy Terminator hunting down future soldier Patrick Wilson please.

Tom Hardy seems to be everybody's number one choice for every action role under the sun nowadays. I think he's a good actor but I'm already sick of seeing suggestions that he should be in literally everything. No, let's not.

And James Cameron can just fuck off.

This franchise needs to die. It's nothing more than a money spinning machine that produces really subpar movies and has been that way since the 90s.

Is there any doubt on that fact? The second one is damn good, to be sure, but it's not as close to perfection as the first. [-(

I think some prefer T2 for the spectacle, effects and set pieces, but yes T1 is a much better film I think. There's not an ounce of fat on it, trimmed to perfection.

It's hard to compare the two really seeing as one is more of a big blockbuster action movie and the other is like a horror thriller. T1 just has a much better atmosphere and vibe in my opinion.

Yeah, it's a bit like saying Alien is better than Aliens... you enjoy both for totally different reasons and both deservedly rated in their respective genres.

This is why I'd take a huge pinch of salt with him doing a new Terminator film, he's supposed to be making at least another 2 Avatar films. I'm also pretty sure he said he's done with Terminator and Aliens.
