Yeah, the gauntlet type matches ensured people actually put effort into their robot designs and driving abilities, though it did sadly stop some of the stranger robots from seeing actual combat. I remember one that was basically a papier mache sphere with a radio controlled car inside. It would have been absolutely useless of course, but I'd like to see someone with a flipper try to have a go at them.
A new series would almost certainly involve a hundred clones of Hypnodisc and Chaos 2, as they were easily the most effective designs.
And stick with the decent house robots. The ones they introduced after the first series were a bit rubbish. Sir Killalot wasn't actually very effective at all from what I remember, he just looked a bit intimidating.
