Jason Bourne - 27th July 2016

Postby Dr@gon-UK » Mon Nov 10, 2014 4:00 pm

At an event earlier this week, Matt Damon finally confirmed that he'll reprise the role of Jason Bourne in in 2016. Speaking to E! News at a party for Project Greenlight, Damon stated that he'll be reuniting with director Paul Greengrass for the project, with the film hitting theaters the following year. According to the actor, "I just needed [Greengrass] to say yes."

The seemingly unintended announcement confirms an earlier Deadline story that stated Universal Pictures was in talks with both Damon and Greengrass for a fifth installment to the Bourne saga. After 2007's The Bourne Ultimatum, the third in the series overall, Greengrass walked away from the franchise. With Bourne's quest to regain his memories complete, the character, the director felt, was at a creative dead end. 2012's The Bourne Legacy starred Jeremy Renner in an entirely different role and met with a lukewarm critical reception. It's still unclear what new adventures Bourne has ahead of him, but fans can now fully expect a continuation to his story.

It's a superb trilogy (the pointless non-Bourne 4th was feeble) but everything was perfectly wrapped up at the end of Ultimatum. I was kind of hoping the two of them would never return to it.

Although, perhaps Damon feels he needs another hit film - and Greengrass maybe wants his name to a big money-earner again. Especially after Green Zone totally bombing (decent film though).

You know, I'd be well up for a new Bourne without fucking greengrass.

Toy Story 4 could go anywhere, but Bladeruner 2 you'd have to hope that it stops with two cuts. Star Wars - haven't missed one yet, but would probably only see it the once unlike the others.

Bumping back from off the grid - have deliberately avoided trailers for JB as all the other films had good moments spoiled by Universal, the only real concern for this movie is John Powell not coming back to do the soundtrack but they'll use his signature theme and have David Buckley fill in with the rest of the score.

Otherwise, can't wait for this. [EDIT] and now the review's up as well, being a straightforward thriller there's not much left to say about it so can only see myself comparing it with the older films whenever I went back to watch it again.

Went to see this last night. The action is still good and despite not having much to say I thought it suited the character in this film because he was clearly meant to be struggling with his place in the world. However the story was very threadbare and some of the stuff felt outdated, like the references to Snowdon and privacy concerns regarding a social media platform. It all felt like it had been done before.

I did go in with my expectations tempered though, knowing it was just going to be more of the same and that is what it was. So a fairly enjoyable watch, but worse than the previous three good Bourne films.

I'm not sure they can continue the franchise now though without seriously rethinking the story. There are only so many times you can watch different CIA teams go after Bourne.

Not completely, like I said I enjoyed watching it, just perhaps not necessary for them to have made another one.

Watched it a second time the other day, still found it slightly hard to follow the shakeycam-orama-vision so I can see myself dropping a free ticket on it for one last go and making sure I sit nearer the back of the screen, then there will be no hurry to bring the Blu Ray home.

Well, if ever there was a film that didn't need to be made this would be it. Not bad but not really very good either. Not a patch on the original trilogy, hope this was the last one.
