A Ghost Story
What a peculiar and quite effective little film. It’s kind of lovely and haunting. It wasn’t what I was expecting at all but it was a pleasant surprise

Red Sparrow
Better than I was expecting. The wrap up is a little too clean but it wasn’t bad.

Open House
Oh boy this shits the bed hard! The first 45mins are good and solid but the last half... ooft! They forgot that a story is kind of important and that no matter how tenuous a conclusion is generally something a movie needs. Pointless is about the best summary word.

Annihilation

It was ok. Interesting at the start and turns into a bit of a mess at the end. I get the Naughty Dog game style comparisons, feels a bit like Last of Us in places.

It came across as one of those Neill Blompkamp Oats Studios shorts from last year made into a feature length film.

Thor Ragnorok

I don't know how I feel about this one. It was clearly way more light hearted than the other Marvel films I've seen, possibly more so than the recent Spiderman film. It clearly didn't take itself seriously, which is refreshing for these Superhero films. However there were some bits I found a bit weird, like how Hulk's character has completely changed, and Thor has kinda turned into this wisecracking hero that sounds like he grew up on Earth. A lot of the acting was very hammy/over the top, which I guess was intentional. I don't know how this fits in with the other films really. Some of the more sci-fi quirky tone was more GotG than Thor.

I've just watched it. I think that's the most fun I've had with a marvel film. Deliberately styled after 80s action films down to the synth soundtrack. I think quite a few of the jokes were improvised. Also big ups to Korg who is voiced by the director of the film.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)

Excellent comedy by Francis Ford Coppola.

No accents were harmed in making this film

Justice League

This is objectively terrible - terrible - but I really enjoyed it. Even Commando has a more coherent and watertight plot, and this plot seems to have been inspired by PS2-era action games. The CGI at times is of a level I'd expect from a straight-to-DVD (no blu-ray) fantasy with a budget raised from scrabbling between sofa cushions. The superhero tone is closer to Batman vs Robin than The Dark Knight, which in a strange way I think works in its favour because this cannot be taken seriously in any way whatsoever. It is a festival of stupidity, and if you embrace it with that attitude then it is a lot of fun. Also, and not least, it's only 2 hours! Thank you, DC, more of this! I'm sick of superhero films that outstay their welcome, pushing for 2.5 to 3 hours, and Justice League bails (with zero elegance) at exactly the right time.

A completely undeserved 7/10

I should probably watch this at some point.
Having already suffered through Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman (along with sort of enjoying Wonder Woman), I might as well see it through to the bitter end.

It's less moody and severe as Man of Steel and BvS, which I would argue is good. The tone is closer to Wonder Woman, but while I'd argue WW has some merit, Justice League has none.

I'm not into superhero movies, but is that the one with the CGI'd upper lip that looks like a facial disfigurement?
